First, locate the *.mn9 file and rename/copy it to Artist02.mny or> I made sure that 2007 didn't uninstall 2001. That *.mn9 file is a copy of your Money 2001 file as it existed at the time of conversion. Then open Money 2001. Click File-> Open within Money 2001 and browse to open Artist02.mny. Close Money 2001. Reopen. Note that Money 2001 opened Artist02.mny automatically. If you don't have a handy icon to open Money 2001, create one. Now the file associations for OFX and QIF will also be with Money 2007. That could be changed, but it cannot be associated with both. However you can open the version of Money you want to use, and do File-> Import to bring the file into your preferred place for this time. - quote - > I, for the life of me, cannot fathom why MS cannot

The easier way to make that change is to start with Start-> Settings-> ControlPanel-> FolderOptions-> FileTypes You might want to create an XP restore point before working with that, in case you want to undo the change. - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:ta7jo2l6bs2kijg1stoufe80v63jv9hm3n[at]4ax.com... > > In microsoft.public.money, G-Artist wrote: > > > > > > I put the 2001 CD back in the drive and was going to do a re-install > > > (thinking I might have messed something up) but I get a grey box > > > message that states "The current installed version of Money is newer > > > than the version on this CD" so I know that 2007 is the culprit here. > > > > > Do I have to totally uninstall 2007 in order to keep using 2001 > > > or is there a work-around? > > > Maybe. | Thanks for the quick response. I made sure that 2007 didn't uninstall 2001. But like all of MS programs, it made itself the default. For instance, when I click on the Sample.mny file in 2001, 2007 boots up (and wants to import it). I, for the life of me, cannot fathom why MS cannot allow two programs to co-exist. That is very, very annoying as I know it will take me at least a week to set up 2007 with the accounts I wish to use for accounting, etc. And doing that part time will mean removing it each and every time I need to access 2001. And I do not wish to import 2001 files into 2007...I want to start clean. I was hoping for maybe a quick registry fix or something along those lines. Maybe. If so, you can then reinstall Money 2007. You might be able to restore to an XP restore point before you installed Money 2007. You would then probably still have to reinstall Money 2001 to get it to work. Check and see. Then install Money 2007,and select that Money 2007 does not uninstall the earlier version. |

| Hi. I have used MS Money 2001 since it came out and only use it for a few checking accounts. A friend gave me his copy of MS Money 2007 H&B as he didn't like it. Can't say I blame him. His business computer, like mine, is not connected to the Internet for security reasons. Anyway I have used QB in the past and I hate that, so I decided to install 2007 and test it. So far I have only played with the invoice module (the one in QB sucks) and planned to give the program a workout after the 1st of the year. BUT, I need to continue using 2001 and I can't. Nothing happens when I click on it. I put the 2001 CD back in the drive and was going to do a re-install (thinking I might have messed something up) but I get a grey box message that states "The current installed version of Money is newer than the version on this CD" so I know that 2007 is the culprit here. Do I have to totally uninstall 2007 in order to keep using 2001 or is there a work-around? Thanks. |
