It's surprising that this particular thing went for two years. The> manually. MMF has its price fixed at $1.00. Keep an extra copy/backup of your file at various stages in case you want to undo something. ================ Changing MMF to Mutual Fund ===================== It is not trivial, but not as hard as it first appears. A few minutes should do it. In the details, remove the existing symbol, and rename the existing "MMF" to something you will never use. Let's suppose you choose zzzz. Create a new Fund with the correct name and symbol. Go back to investment zzzz and choose View: Investment Details. Enter a fake new Buy dated before all other transactions with quantity more than the total of other "MMF" transactions. Change each non-fake transaction to the fund using the drop-down list. Start with the oldest transaction. Particular attention should be made to not change the total. So you will want blank the price, and to change the quantity to the actual number of shares you transacted. You will probably need to work with the order of things. If you lose the total for a transaction you are working on, press the Esc key to get out of that edit attempt, and try again. Keep going until there are no more zzzz transactions remaining except the fake transaction. Delete the fake Buy transaction. At that point you can "delete" zzzz. ================================= - quote - > Is there a simpler fix? Something like just checking another box.
Did you imagine I would answer "yes, there is a checkbox you could> I`m not sure how this originally happened, but it does not make sense to me > that once you create an investment you are locked out of it. tick to let you switch"? Actually, Money 2007 *does* have a setting to do some changing. A new capability of Money 2007 is the ability to change the InvestmentType, but it does not do the MMF to MF change you want. You could change from MMF to Other, which could be good enough for your purposes. In Microsoft Money, MMF and Other do not track tax lots, as a mutual fund or stock do. But Other does let you have non-one prices. So there is a simpler semi-fix by converting to Money 2007 and changing the MMF to type Other. The change of investment type will allow you to change among MutualFund, Stock, Bond, and Index. (you can also change among MMF,Other,or CD/USSavingsBond.) This capability has been long requested and it will be very useful for some people. People converting from Quicken will be major beneficiaries, but it will be of use to many others also. This has some limitations. e.g., if you have an Interest transaction for a fund, you cannot change the security to a stock. This is because a Stock cannot have an Interest transaction. The transition that I wish had been included, but was not, is Fund-> MMF. |

If so, this is tricky to do. You did not miss a simple fix. -----Overview---- The fix involves renaming the MMF to something like zzzz and blanking the symbol. Then create a new MF named AA_Right_MF. Change all of the zzzz transactions to AA_Right_MF. This can be tedious, but there are techniques that can help. Then rename AA_Right_MF to the right name for the mutual fund. At that point it looks as if you are done, but you are not. If you then do an OFX download, Money will associate the downloaded transactions to zzzz. To fix that, you will next File-> Import a specially prepared OFX file as a statement. When Money asks if a certain investment is the same as something you already have in the file, you will say it is the same as zzzz. Then when you later download from your broker, Money will ask if the actual fund is the same as something you already have in the file. You will say it is the same as the right mutual fund. ----------------------------- So are you up to a complex fix? |
