Default Re: MS Dlx 2007 Budget Insight

a)

1) Inclusion in budget makes transfers to/from accounts show as 'net
transfers'. (Maybe it's the other way around). Anyway, that's an
improvement when used judiciously, IMO. I permits you to
budget/schedule/track deposits into long-term savings, for example. You can
see if your deposits to savings exceed withdrawals, so you can measure
progress.

2) Depending on how far out of use they are, and how much historical budget
activity you have, you may or may not want to leave them in budget even
when they're closed. If you close a checking account, for example, but it
was your primary checking account at the early part of the year, all
transactions out/in of that account, to current 'in-budget' accounts, will
show as summary 'transfers out of (into) budget'. You cannot control that,
except to include or exclude them in the budget.

b)

That's never had any benefit, as far as I've been able to divine. Money
never did track savings plans very well. I don't know if that function
changed with 2007 and the S&S budget, but the ability to view 'net savings'
in S&S is an improvement.

I tried the S&S budget but it totally blows Cash Flow Forecasting. You
cannot use budget projections in your CFF - only 'past trends'. If you
cannot project the effect of your budget plan on your future cash flow, how
can you adequately evaluate whether it's any good?

Default MS Dlx 2007 Budget Insight

Contained under the credit accounts within MS 2007 DLX are 2 checkboxes
under account details (settings): a) Include this account in the budget
planner, b) Use this account for budgeted savings goals.

Can some help answer the following questions for me:

1) What affect do each have on the way 2007 uses the new savings and
spending budget?
2) If I have old accounts for which I have plan to close, is there a
benefit to checking either of these boxes before closing as a way of using
historical insight into my spending patterns? If I check these and close
the account, does MS Money ignore these checkboxes, in other words, does
closing an account override all other options?
