| It depends on your objectives and what you mean by "safest". It also depends on what you are trying to model in the real world. The investment activity "Transfer Shares" is the intended way to model, say, moving investments to a different brokerage account/broker. It has the side effect that the performance reporting on the Portfolio page acts as though this is a But in the new account. I haven't followed the whole thread, but I'm having a hard time imagining re-entering transactions being a better solution than, say, transaction Cut and Paste to Account with some creative temporary transaction(s) to avoid the spurious "negative shares" and "can't sell" warnings. I'm probably missing something, but just tried a couple of test cases and don't know what it is. | So, if I read this thread right that if you want to transfer some investments into another account, the safest way is to re-enter all the transactions in each investment manually, deleting them in the original? | Same problem with moneycentral investments. It was dropped when they changed from the previous to the current format. | Investments were added in something like M95 or M97. The product changed away from the MDI (multi-document interface) in, IIRC, M95 and changed to the IE based web browser UI in M98. If this was ever there, it wasn't there for long. You are surely correct that Microsoft has another agenda for Money besides retaining good features and improving the software for long time users. | This capability was in the first few versions of Money. It seems strange that as this application has been updated over the years, some good features have been dropped. Usually updates improve the software, I guess Microsoft has another agenda. | Nope. Depending on what your intentions are, you can Transfer Shares the share balance, but the transaction history to that point would stay in the original account.
