Manual updates are still allowed. a file of transactions from one's bank, brokerage, and/or credit card website into Money. But during the "mistaken" suspension of update services, I was able to "manually" download transaction files from my financial institutions' websites and upload those files into Money. Perhaps that was only because the suspension of updating was "mistaken," not the true draconian one that I would seek to avoid by stopping my updating before Sept. 2007. If I stop updating before they through a wrench into my Money (via an update), I don't understand how they would prevent me from uploading a file from my financial instituion. (I distinguish importing of transaction data via automatic update--running Money update, vs. manually downloading a file (QIF or other Money compatible format) from a website into Money.) |

| Don't forget that cut-off depends on the version of M2004 that you bought so you get either 2 years or 3 years. My understanding of the cut-off is that it stops you reading a file into Money. | Okay I missed whatever discussion there may have been elsewhere with regard to the "mistaken" cutoff. Where was that? This forum or some MS site? I believe that we "bought" our M04 together w/ Tax Cut 04 in early 05 (actually made money after the various rebates, etc.), thus the 9/1/07 date is what I will look for. Given the circumstances, I guess that I will have to see how much functionality they leave me after the cutoff--manually price and transaction downloads or not. (The update function theoretically could put quite a wrench into Money, if they were malicious.) Wonder if I could avoid a blockage of manual updating if I stop the auto updates before 9/1/07. Anyone care to speculate? |

| I think I'd put it a little differently than Bob. I believe it was completely intentional to implement the cutoff. What they botched was the whichever comes first part of three years or September 1, 2007. Regardless of what day you first activated, I'm betting you **will** get cutoff September 1, 2007. If you activated M04 Deluxe prior to September 1, 2004, I'm betting you **might** get cutoff on the 3rd anniversary. | As has been posted elsewhere it was a mistake in activating the shut off. Download timeouts are as per your EULA and it depends whether you get 2 or 3 years which version of M2004 you have. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | Guess what, about a week later, the update function is totally back to normal: all prices are updated, and all enabled transaction accounts are updated. No dunning to upgrade to M07. I wondered if that might happen. So it will be interesting to see how long this lasts. Is it a temporary glitch on MS's part, or a programmed campaign, in which they will eventually suspend us for another week, with another upgrade ad, then resume, or eventually finally kill our updates? If they believe that they are causing us to migrate to Quicken, perhaps they are better off keeping us using Money so that we eventually do "upgrade." No idea what they are doing, but we are back in business updating. In case anyone is interested in our details, we have two accounts (files, IDs, passwords), one only takes the securities prices and the Money updates (which include tax setting updates), in the other account I take the prices, MS Money updates, and transactions from certain banks, brokerages, and credit card companies with each update. I do not have background updating turned on (in which you have to provide your Passport credentials). Certain banks, brokerages, credit cards do not support the auto update function, but I can manually download transactions from them while logged into their websites. Money may refer to this as Web Statements and/or Web Bill Pay. I do not use Web Bill Pay via Money or originate any transactions via Money (Bill Pay, etc.). In fact, my downloading of transactions is essentially done to reconcile and clear transactions that I have already entered into Money within a day or so (or previous to in the case of Bill Pay which I do at one of my banks while logged into their website) of the transaction. However, I do not imagine that the fact that Money Update is working again, has anything to do with my specific use pattern. Finally, even when we had lost our update function, we were not blocked from inputting prices manually. (It is easy to set up a vector of prices at say Yahoo, then copy and paste them, one at a time, into Money's Price Update box.) Nor was I blocked from downloading transactions ("web statements") manually, by going to the websites of the accounts that I wanted, and using the download function. Updating manually in this manner, once a week for prices, and once a month for transactions is not so onerous. But for the nonce, I am using the auto update function again! | Went from Money 2004 Standard to 2007 Deluxe. My 2004 Data file was 41MB, after 2007 converted it the size was 180MB! I only had one bill set up, so it was no problem to re-enter. Money 2007 crashed several times. Then I did the Nuke the Bill's thing. Money 2007 data file is now 24MB, no crashes, Money 2007 runs very fast. You may not get these results, but it worked great for me. It's an optional destructive repair function used to combat slowness> Nuking Bills? due to any problem bills. File-> Repair-> RemoveAllBillsData. If you don't have a problem, you don't need it. If you want to test the effect, do it on a copy of your converted file. - quote - > I'm getting ready to convert 2003 Deluxe to 2007 Deluxe
You can try the downloadable free trial first. Pay attention during> and would like to know of any pitfalls. install, and you can choose to have Money 2007 not uninstall Money 2003. If you make a copy of your current file with a different name, you can have Money 2007 convert that. Then you could open either version of Money, but not both at the same time. |

| Well it happened. They stopped updating our quotes and transactions automatically as of 11/18/06, noting the number of excess days (over 100) since our 3-years of auto updating expired. I was curious to find out if (1) we could continue to manually update securities prices--YES. And (2) if we would be able to manually download statements and/or transactions from institutions providing that function--YES. So we are still in business, if not as conveniently. When we run Money Updates, it seems to indicate that Money proper's updating function is still doing something (at least changing the date of last update). Have no idea if any future tax setting changes will come through or if we will have to do that manually. For now, we are sticking with M04. Still monitoring Dick's site and users' comments here. Hope M08 is compelling. I suppose that if a near free copy of M07 Deluxe is offered this winter at one of the typical vendors, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc., I may try running it on a dual basis, but Nuking the Bills, etc. seems a bit daunting. |
