| This might be the only reason I might consider archiving. The oldest of the data is probably of limited value now. Purging off the old check numbers could avoid the problem. If starting a new series of checks, jump to 10000, not 5000. Get a BIG gap between your online checks and paper checks. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news nt3m2911kak0jsb4sj8m0a8eb3urd0c4l[at]4ax.com...- quote - > Un-tick > Tools-> Settings-> Editing-> DisplayAWarningWhenUsingDuplicateCheckNumbers > Alternatively order new checks starting with 5000. > Alternatively, by hand, change all of the old one. You could enter as few or many manual entries as you like, except> account in Money, closing the old one and transferring the balance > over. Also, if you are set up for online access in the old one, I would not do that. I expect that you would have a problem in setting up online access for the new account in Money 2002. If you are entering by hand or downloading via web site, then that should not be a problem. And regarding the duplicate numbers, it could mean that you will want to limit the date on reports that are sorted by check number. Similarly, if you sort your register by check number, then that could be confusing. Otherwise, Money is not going to be messed up for you, other than issuing the optional warnings. |

| Archiving is disastrous, IMHO. I guess what I'm hearing is that duplicate check numbers are not all that bad, as long as you are certain the numbers in question are years apart. I'm wondering, as well about the impact of creating a new checking account in Money, closing the old one and transferring the balance over. I assume the first time it connects to the bank, it will only download the new transactions? Sounds like there may be some manual entries using that method.... Thanks for your suggestions. | My checking account in MS Money 2002 goes back to 1996. I use Money to pay bills via Suntrust Bank, and have for all of that time. When I started, my personal checkbook check numbers were in the 1000's and the online service started at Check number 4000. Clear? Now my personal check book numbers are in the 4000 range and there are duplicate check numbers showing up, albeit 10 years apart. Since archiving is such a poor option (I've tried it in the past; massive headache) what are some ideas on how to deal with this situation? Any suggestions appreciated. |
