It would be interesting to see what happens if you Set up a new Money FILE. Set up your AGE accounts within that file Go online and see if you wind up with the correct or with the incorrect position. If you are getting the correct position in that circumstance, after making a backup, try deleting all transactions and positions of the security in your "live" file. Also do a search and see if there are any signs of the wrong stock name or symbol. You may not be able to completely delete the security, but you should at least be able to alter the Name, Symbol and/or CUSIP to something clearly not a stock. Then import again from AGE. It should try to match Account Quantity with what is in the statement. If you've deleted or altered everything in Money, this should correct things. You could then go back and reenter the actual purchases with proper dates and amounts. --ron |

Another thing that can happen is that there was a reorg (name change). There was the OldCo and the NewCo present in the OFX for a bit. As an experiment, consider adding some fake shares of the *right* security. Then download should tell you that you have a mismatch, and Money should offer to remove shares for you. I suspect it won't, because somehow Money thinks the downloaded security is the *wrong* security. That is to say, it has associated the CUSIP of the real security to the *wrong* security. - quote - > Cal may be onto something in that these two
Actually I had not been thinking of the combine operation, but that> have been combined (a new function in 2007), which I will research. CombineWith operation might be a way to deal with the problem: combine the right and the wrong securities. You might want to make an extra copy/backup of your file, and see if that CombineWith operation helps. Then undo with File-> Restore or using the extra copy if the result is not optimum. There is another method: import a specially made OFX file, and say that the phony investment in that OFX file is the same as the *wrong* investment. That would cause Money to ask about the investment upon the next real download. Then you would associate the security in the file with the *right* investment. I have such a specially made OFX file that I could post. |

| Hey Ron, great ideas...been looking at every one of the ones you and Cal have suggested (still no solution). The transaction does continue to show up on subsequent downloads. The problem, interestingly, showed up on the same day that I had a purchase for another stock...with a similar name and the identical quantity. Money correctly downloaded that transaction with the symbol, amounts, etc. BUT, the next download (the following day) is when this mystery transaction started to show up. Basically, it says that "Statement Quantity does not match Account Quantity" and wants to add shares to bring AGE and Money to be in synch with each other (that is, with positions and quantities). What is interesting is that the mystery transaction is has a similar name and identical quantity to a correctly purchased / owned transaction. Cal may be onto something in that these two have been combined (a new function in 2007), which I will research. The log file (that Cal helped me to create) does not seem to contain the mystery position, which puzzles me since there is obviously some discrepancy between positions / quantities between Money and AGe...otherwise I wouldn't be getting this error. You mentioned "there are methods of recording and viewing the online update download"...can you point me in the direction of finding how to do this? Please advise...and THANK YOU again for the prompt response. Note that understanding the position data will require you to look two places. One record will associate the CUSIP with the investment (in a <SECINFO> ...</SECINFO> record, and then that <UNIQUEID> CUSIP would show up in the position data earlier in the file with a <POSSTOCK> ...</POSSTOCK> record for stock. That would be <POSMF> for a mutual fund. I find that replacing '<' characters with newline+'<' makes those files more readable. ofx.net has the specs. | Cal, found the .txt's, created a new money file, and successfully imported per your instructions. Unfortunately, I did not find the mystery position, as I hoped I would find as that would have definitely proven the problem was in the file, not with money. Because the new file with this download did not yield anything, do you have any other suggestions? I may just, as you say, wait and hope it goes away. For information about how to capture log files, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 911941 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911941/) How to capture an OFX log file in Money. The file will be named "AGEdwardsandSonsInc ########## RS.txt" where the #s represent numbers. Use the bigger (and perhaps later) of the two new files. You could try to analyze the file, but that would be tricky. You could create a new Money test file (select Decline) and name it something like test7.mny. Then copy that file to testAGE.OFX or some such name. File-> Import that file into the test7.mny file. If that file sees the mystery position (which I expect), then that is in the file. | I have been using Money's Account Download service with my financial institution (AG Edwards) for over a year with absolutely no problems. Last week I downloaded my last batch of transactions and Money could not reconcile what was in the software vs. what was being reported by AGE. It suggested I add 19 shares of a stock I do not own so that Money and AGE could synch up. Not only have never owned this symbol, but my online AGE account doesn't show that I own it either. Yet the Position Matching screen in Money shows a position for this stock in the "Statement Quantity", when in fact I do not own this. I have 1 options - have money update my positions (which would incorrectly reflect stocks I don't own) or choose "No, I will update these positions myself" (which if I do nothing, they just show up the next time I do my online update). My financial institution says it's not them, but I'm conviced it is. Any advice? |
