I believe you can edit them simply by prefixing a negative sign to the
number.

You advised that each time I lend more money, this should 'Increase' the
asset account I have created. By mistake all the entried are 'Decrease'.
Is there a simple of changing them all to 'Increase'? I tried to 'Edit'
then item, then click 'Increase' but the system only asks me when I want to
create new transaction.

That's your choice. It just has to be an income category. That one works.
Others do, too.

What account you enter it in isn't entirely relevant. The MAIN SECRET is to
get the direction of the money flow correct. A DEPOSIT into the receiving
account should meet this criteria.

This is one way and the increase tab is for adding to the balance--say you
lent some more money.

Actually, I think you would want to enter it in the loan account and
Transfer:Cheque Account.

The loan account in this scenario is an Asset--something of value you have.
When you get money back in payment, you want to reduce the value of this
asset and increase the value in your chequeing (British English spelling
warning) account.

That would work. There is no one correct answer. Use a category name that
makes sense to you provided it is of the correct type.

One further query, you've mentioned record their interest in income
category for the interest. Would it be under the Income:Investment Income:
Interest?

When I create the New Account, I selected Other> Loan> Just track the Value.
Is my understanding correct: when I lend the money, I goto the Loans Due to
Me> From (eg. select Current Account)> Pay to (eg. the friend's Payee name)?
When they pay me back, goto Loans Due to me> Decrease (eg select the friends'
Payee name)? What is the Increase tab for?

If I was to receive the money paid back to me but into the Cheque Account, I
would then, cateogrize the item in the Cheque Account then, Transfer to
Loans Due to Me. Would this be a suitable method?

Thank you.

Create an account called Loans Due Me. When you lend the money, it's a
transfer to that account. Record who it is with a memo. If they pay you
back, withdraw it from the account as transfer. If they pay you interest,
record it as split with the reimbursed amount transferred from the Loans
account and an income category for the interest.

If this is a more formal loan with a specific repayment period, you can set
up a loan account in Money. Tell money you loaned it, not borrowed it. In
that case, get a lawyer.

Default Category question

If you lend some money to a friend, what is this best way to categorise and
record this transaction in Money? Would it be categorised as Income when
the money is paid back to you? Say Irregular Income? What if they pay you
some interest?

Thank you.
