Default Reconcile / Balance way off

Gwen,
I found out what I was doing wrong after I sent my
question. Instead of "clearing" each transaction on Money
that appeared on my bank statement, I was "reconciling"
it. I guess Money reconciles everything automatically
(puts an R in the clear column) for those things marked
clear after you hit finish. I went back through each
transaction for Sep, changed it from reconiled to cleared,
I was in balance, hit Finish or Done, and it changed them
to R.

I don't know if this helps with your problem or not.

You can leave it, but I would change it. I expect a warning about
changing a reconciled transaction, but that is OK.

If the adjustment already shows as reconciled with today's
date, will it cause a problem for me to change the date,
or, should I leave well enough alone?

Thanks!

That way the balance column would be correct for dates following the
adjustment.

I would hope that those recent transactions are available for
download or for copying from your bank's website.

Thank you - that is very helpful. One [hopefully] final
question is - what is the benefit of dating the adjustment
*prior* to where the foul-up began as opposed to leaving
it at today's date (where Money automatically puts it).

And, much to my chagrin, I realize that I am still missing
about 10 recent checks - before this mess began, I had
entered several transactions and done away with the check
duplicates and receipts. Now, I'll be trying to recreate
THAT mess, it seems. But, at least I'm a bit closer.

Yay.

Rather than adjusting the starting balance, I would enter a $3k
transaction that will make up the difference. Date it just before
where you think you have complete data. You can create a category of
"adjustment", or you can leave the category blank.

OK. I have downloaded the information for the MISSING 44
days from my bank and filled in the blanks as best I could
(minus a few check copies that I am not able to see). I
still have a problem and I'm sure the answer if in front
of me.....I just can't see it. The balances *prior* to
those missing 44 days is still 'bad'/corrupt. The
balances coming into that timeframe are still not
right.....and when I tried to balance, the starting is
over $3k off.

I'm at a loss; I'm not sure how to remedy this. I am
thinking that I should change the starting balance, but,
that doesn't seem right.

Any and all hints appreciated. If I've not stated
something precisely, or further information is needed,
feel free to ask me to expand.

Thank you,
Gwen

Now Cal. The reason you are chastising me is? I also said
that I had been struggling for 36hours. That is not an
exaggeration. Pardon my semantics, please. I would have
much preferred a helpful reply - perhaps even a 'please
clarify' would have been pleasant. I am NOT a techie -
that's why I'm here. I'm a mom with 3 busy boys who just
lots scads of information. And I get called down for
semantics. ::sigh::

Now Gwen. You also just said your symptoms were the same as the
person who had the "no data" symptom.

Default Reconcile / Balance way off

I started using Money 2003 when I opened a new checking
acount in June. Every transaction is entered (downloaded
and matched to the ones I entered manually) and when I got
the latest statement, I manually reconciled everything,
but the more I reconciled, the more out of balance the
account became. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but
don't have a clue.
Is there a way to leave all the transactions in place but
unrenconcile everything, and then rereconcile and
rebalance?
Is there a difference between reconciling my Money account
with my bank statement, and Balancing the account.
