Either open the sample.mny file in your install folder, or let
Money 2005 create a new Money file, clicking Decline in the
process. It will do an update. Close Money. Then open Money and
check that Help-> About... says you then have version 14.0.*.1105.

Then you should be able to open or restore your existing files.

Then I suggest you not take the default location for the restore,
but rather Browse to the location (typically your MyDocuments
folder).

Default Problems restoring back-up file - Money 2005

I am configuring a new PC at home and was restoring my Money 2005
back-up file onto the new machine. When I try to restore, I get the
message,

"Money cannot locate '<location of your Money data file> ' or cannot
open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or your disk drive is
write protected."

I cannot see any problem with disk space or write-protection. I did
copy the back-up file to hard disk [from a flash drive]. Also, I
opened the sample.mny file, backed it up, and restored that back-up
successfully. Both my old PC and the new PC are running XP SP2 and the
same version of MSMoney. I have no problem restoring my back-up on my
old PC, so it's almost like something is changing with the file when I
copy it to my flash drive in order to move it to the new PC.

The last thing I am going to try is uninstalling/reinstalling Money on
the new PC to see if something got fouled up with the install. I am
also going to try a different flash drive and maybe try burning the
file on CD as different attempts at transporting the file from the old
PC to the new PC.

Any other suggestions?

TIA,

Ryan
