There is no way they could call that one "by design", or claim the problem was actually elsewhere. |

Perhaps with your information this may be possible. By the way, I have found there is no need to uninstall CitiVAN. The requirement is that it not be running when Money is running. If Money is not running, then it is OK to run CitiVAN. Best, --ron |

| All, In case anyone else has problems with Money crashing unexpectedly, here's a tip that might help someone. I upgraded from 2005 to 2007 and noticed that going to the Lifetime planner would cause a crash. After the 5th time or so, I decided to take action. As a software engineer, I have Visual Studio on my computer. I followed the tip at http://www.hanselman.com/blog/SetUpY...bolServer.aspx to download the debugging symbols for Microsoft libraries. This basically helps the debugger understand Microsoft's libraries better to know which functions are being called when the crash occurs. I ran the lifetime planner and saw the trace of events that occured right as the crash happened. Armed with the debugging symbols, I was able to quickly see what happened: In the background, (e.g. using a thread), Money was using Internet Explorer for some activity. A browser helper object called CitiVAN (a tool from CitiBank to create virtual account numbers) was intercepting the traffic (probably to see if it contained a form where to fill out a credit card number so that it could pop up and ask if I wanted to use a virtual account number). For some reason, a bug in CitiBank's code caused it to read memory location #0 (in software engineer speak: dereference a null pointer) which is a big no-no. This ultimately led to the operating system shutting down Money (e.g. crashing) Uninstalling CitiVAN cured the crashing and now Money 2007 works fine. My setup: Windows XP & IE7 Thus, if you have the right tools you can rather quickly diagnose the problem. If not, consider the IE "helper" tools that you have installed and remove some of them. With Money's reliance on IE for quite a few things, consider what might be interferring with IE. Hope this helps, Jeff |
