Default Re: Recording Mutual Fund Merger in Money 04 Deluxe

Never mind...

Investigating this further, I dicovered this is a "user error": I sold
this Mutual Fund about a year ago, and since that time LUFZX is no
longer a valid ticker. Probably this mutual fund was merged out of
existence. Not sure exactly, as I am no longer receiving
correspondence from Columbia Funds...

Anyway, please consider this thread closed.

Cal's info certainly helped me to get my Money status to match reality,
so thanks Cal!

Regards, Cuz.

Default Recording Mutual Fund Merger in Money 04 Deluxe

I've put off recording a tax-free Mutual Fund Merger which occured back
in 2002, mainly because I kept waiting for the next version of MS Money
to be enhanced to be able to handle this task.

However, I have migrated through various versions of Money, and I am
now on Money 2004 Deluxe, but it still doesn't have this functionality.

Reading over Cal Learner's various posts on this newsgroup I see the
recommended way to handle this is:

[In] Money 2003 and 2004... if you do not hold both of the original
funds and this is a tax-free merger, this way has no disadvantage:

1. Do an appropriate split of the fund. You will need to input
the split ratio a ratio of integers (1 ... 65535). Post the ratio
you want to achieve.

2. In the investment details, change the symbol.

3. Change the investment name.

4. Add a brief comment to the investment to explain the change.

However, when I tried this using 100 * NAVs from the old fund (5.91)
and new fund (9.03) for a ratio of 591 to 903, I see the Quantity and
Price for each transaction has been adjusted, with the Total amount
column remaining the same (as I expected), but the final account value
is not the same:

Before I entered the split, the Account Value was $4480.00, (758.037
shares times $5.91 per share), but after the split the Account Value is
$2932.09 (Money is showing the correct 496.124 shares but still has
$5.91 per share).

I updated the ticker symbol for Columbia Utilities Fund (LUFZX) and
selected Update Prices Online, but I don't see any change. It is still
showing $5.91/share.

Any ideas? Thanks, Cuz.
