| Thanks all. Finally recorded the spin-off using Article 179585 (which sort of defeats the purpose of Money 2007). Will just go out and buy Money Deluxe 2007 and hope everything works. Will probably take your advice and get it on disk instead of just downloading it. At Sams and Costco and perhaps others, you can find Money 2007 Deluxe without rebate. Spinoffs should not crash, but there is an anomaly in Money 2007 for spinoffs. A spinoff should not normally affect the cash transactions register, except for possible CIL. You may need to make a compensating transaction in the cash transactions register to adjust. |

| OK, I did a search on program/file associations and found a thread that seemed to help. Just went into Wndows Explorer, right clicked on My Money and, voila, the Open With showed up. So tried Microsoft Money AND Internet Explorer and no go. I continue to get the same error messages. Sigh...maybe I'll just BUY Money 2007 and hope for the best. But if anyone has any ideas, it will continue to be appreciated. Thanks again. "jmac" wrote: - quote - > Yes I did read the article(s) referenced in the thread. | Yes I did read the article(s) referenced in the thread. I don't think any of them apply to my specific problem. I'm using Record a Spin-off in the Record a Special Activity task. It let's me get all the way through and then gives me the "This operation cannot be performed" and when I click more info, I get the "This file does not have a program..." message. Have been trying to follow instructions to where I can get to click on a box within Internet Explorer that has "Always used the selected program to open this kind of file" but it doesn't work (the article I mentioned earlier). I get to step 6 and there is no 'temp' in the Temp folder contents on which to right click... It's all very frustrating. Maybe I'll just purchase 2007 Deluxe and hope it works correctly and the 'file has a program associated with it'. I wanted Money 2007 mainly so it would be relatively easy to handle spin-offs and mergers... Perhaps this is more of a Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer problem than a Money problem. Is there anyone or anywhere in the discussions group that could help me with that? Thanks. | I wouldn't think using the trial would make a difference, but MSFT does have a generous return policy so the "real" version might be worth a look. The association message you get deals, I believe, with the error message, not the problem which is behind the error message. Did you look at the KB article referenced in the thread? -- Michael Gordon "jmac" <jmac[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A9B2D4E5-F928-4520-9941-1204259B58E5[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > OK, read the thread. | OK, read the thread. My problem is I'm using 2007 not 2006. It is the trial version not the 'paid' version. Does that make the difference? I'm also trying to get help via the "contact a professional by e-mail" route which hasn't done me any good so far. The only article I could find that has the "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." message in it has to do with printing, but I got bogged down in step six as there was no 'temp' in the temp folder contents (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899632/en-us). Any other suggestions? Thank you. | There's a recent thread (Spin-off/Money 2006) in which the same problem was resolved by moving from 06 to 07. -- Michael Gordon "jmac" <jmac[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1B1EABF1-E646-4414-A111-69F2FFFD841B[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > When I complete the information for Spin-offs, I get the message "This > file > does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. > Create an association in the Folders Option control panel" > How do I do this? | When I complete the information for Spin-offs, I get the message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folders Option control panel" How do I do this? Am using the Trial Version. |
