| More then likely it came bundled with MS works on your pc from the OEM installing money wont make a difference to the main folder just allow you to use money again it sounds like a bad sector or a glitch on the drive for that main reasons I wouldnt if it was any windows 98 couldnt just restart in command prompt and remove it but unfortuantely in this case youll have a problem getting rid of it try the below steps and tell me how it works Step1: Go to start then run and type in command and click ok this will open the command prompt Step2: type in "cd C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1" and then click enter then type in "dir" and click enter this will bring up the file list in here verify this is the right folder you want to remove by looking at the contents if it is not change the number from 1 to 2 until you find it for example "cd C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2" after you find it type in "del /f C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1" make sure the last number is the same one you found the files in and then click Yes when prompted after this completes type in "RD C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1" same as before change the number to correspond with the folder this should delete files and folders |

| C is indeed the system disk, and while I suppose I could try and install money, there are two issues: 1. Can't find Money 2002. 2. I never installed it to begin with! It just arrived one day! I will probably just end up leaving it be since there doesn't seem to be a good way out of this. If I get the time, I might go ahead and reinstall the OS as suggested. If you all think of anything else, please let me know, but otherwise I will stop wasting your time on this issue! | Steve and Cal, checked security and permissions. Still no luck. It is strange, as even when I simply click on the folder, I get the message that it wants to format drive C. It shows no files in the folder and a size of 0kb. Any other thoughts? | Despite my being logged in as a machine administrator, I am getting "access denied" when I try and get the attributes of the folder. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\Calcs I cannot go to this path, and when I go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money and try to get the attributes, it also says access denied I have tried with the hidden, archive, etc. options. Nothing works. Any other thoughts? It's an old DOS command.Open a command window (DOS window). CD to the directory of interest. Enter "attrib" to see what is there. Enter "attrib /?" to see syntax. Use "attrib" as the search term in your favorite search engine to see more on the usage of attrib. Here is an example: http://search.live.com/results.aspx?...n-us&FORM=LVSP |

| You likely have problems with your harddrive. Cyclic Redundancy Check almost always means physical problems with the hard drive. It may simply be a bad sector or two that could be fixed with chkdsk. I would definitely suggest checking your hard drive for problems. I would also suggest making backups of important docs to another media in case you eventually lose all access to that hard drive. -Mark "Greg" <Greg[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0A55B5B6-8DF0-4B9A-9C61-0464E0200023[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Thanks Steve, this solved part of the issue, but there is something else > strange. > Per the instructions in this Knowledge Base article, I tried to delete the > Program Files\Microsoft Money folder, but it will not allow me to delete > the > folder "Calcs," and hence will not delete the Money folder. | Thanks Steve, this solved part of the issue, but there is something else strange. Per the instructions in this Knowledge Base article, I tried to delete the Program Files\Microsoft Money folder, but it will not allow me to delete the folder "Calcs," and hence will not delete the Money folder. It tells me that Calcs is not empty and cannot be deleted. However, a properties check shows the folder has 0 items. What is more infuriating is that when I try and click on the Calcs folder, it gives me a pop-up saying "The volume in drive C: is not formatter - would you like to format it now?" Of course, I click "cancel," but this is worrisome. Now when I click on IE, I get a brief installed popup, but so quick I cannot tell what it is trying to install. No more clicking on "cancel" repeatedly, though. Could these two issues be related, and do you have any idea how I would get rid of this Calcs folder? One more thing, when I try to delete the folder through the command line, I get a Cyclic Redundancy Check error. | Hi, one of our employees is having a VERY annoying problem. Whenever he launches explorer or Internet Explorer, he gets a pop-up window wherein Money 2002 is attempting to install or finish an installation. If I try and go through with the installation, it fails. If I try and uninstall through the Windows installed in Add/Remove programs, it fails. If I try and uninstall through "modify" it fails. I cannot delete any of the folders in Program Files\Money One of the folders within it is trying to format the C drive when I attempt to open it, and will not allow me to delete it! We have never tried to install any version of Money on this machine, and we have no installation disk to "continue" the installation. This is getting very annoying, as any time a window is opened we have to keep hitting "cancel." As it is not trying to install on startup, there is no instance in msconfig. Can anyone help? Thanks, Greg -- Greg Gardner IT Systems Engineer |
