Well, then how can I clean up the program?

If you remove them, you will affect your prior period net worth calculations
(should you care)....

Is it completely safe for me to delete stocks that I have not had for years,
so they no longer show up on the drop down menus? Will that affect long
term reports? What about old transactions? Will they get screwed up?
After using this program for 8-10 years, there is nothing I trust about it.
It could be so much better.

It seems to work fine in Money 2006 and 2007. The old transactions
for the closed positions remain. To un-delete later, enter a fake
dividend.

However I suggest you blank the symbol first.

You could alternatively rename Ajax Corp to ZZZ_Ajax Corp, which
would just move it to the bottom of the lists.

That should motivate you to make backups. It would help if you did
not trust your hard drive so that you would back up onto different
media. It would help if .... so you would keep an off-site backup.
