you might want to install the Money 2007 trial on a different
computer and see if it could make sense of the *.mny file or a
backup. Use a USB flash drive to copy the file over.

yeah it was doing that... there were like 8 backup files that were all
worthless.

oh it's not. i'm saying the file was screwed up to the point where this
other product, AND the built in repair tool, both failed to fix it.

the results.log gives a not real helpful clue to why it can't fix it:

No broken records in the original file.

hmm, so what's the problem then? dunno. oh well thanks anyway.

Thanks for the heads-up. Newer versions are smarter in that they
will save more than one backup by default. The default is 4, but I
prefer to change the setting to more.

In addition, your sister should keep a backup to a USB flash drive
at least once per month. If the hard drive fails, then even 20
backups on the hard drive won't help.

AFAIK that is not an official MS product. Money comes with built in repair
tools.

See http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/328.aspx for instructions on using the
MS tools.

Default Money 2004 corrupted files

hopefully newer versions are smarter, my sisters money file somehow got
"corrupted" and everytime she tried to open money, money would tell her
the file wasn't closed right and would try and repair it, and
fail.. but it didn't even open, but yet it would get backed
up. so she tried it a few different times and eventually money had backed
up the corrupted one over and over destroying all her good backups.

the "recovery tool" was useless, and http://www.officerecovery.com/money/
was no help either. She's already accepted it and is starting from
scratch. Just trying to share the lesson, if you get an error
message about a corrupted file, back up all your backups right away!
