Note: I > have not gone back to my "old default startup/home page" in money to see if > M07 would crash on this page. to open it with a sample file (test.mny) file that I had set up doing some other trouble shooting. It had no real data in it. With that file open, I was able to alter the Program startup page and then open my regular .mny file. Then I deleted the investment performance section of the home page and was able to both navigate to the home page, and also reset my startup page to the home page with no further difficulties. If I did not remove the investment performance section from my home page, M07 would crash on navigating to the home page (using my original .mny file) even if that was not the start page. My download, by the way, probably added about thirty new stock positions, so our situations may not be comparable. --ron |

| Ron, Yes, I had updated my *.mny file with online downloads from broker and I'm sure it had added at least one new stock position. Then I had : 1) Saved my *.mny file while exiting Money 2007 2) Then tried to "re-open Money 2007 with my *.mny file 3) Then the error message would appear "Money has encountered a problem ..." I did not try the approach you used to resolve my Money 2007 crash issue, as during attempts to start M07 with my latest saved data file it would crash before I could change the "startup/home page". So I had to: 1) Start M07 with a "backup data file, *.mbf ", 2) Then reset my default "startup/home page" to the "bank accounts list page" 3) Then re-download data from online accounts for the ~two weeks that this "backup data file was missing". At least one new stock position was added to my Money accounts during this online account update download process. 4) Created a new "backup data file" (for safety) 5) Exited M07 with no errors, auto saving my *.mny file 6) Re-started M07 with my *.mny file and have had no issues since. Note: I have not gone back to my "old default startup/home page" in money to see if M07 would crash on this page. -- Thanks "Ron Rosenfeld" wrote: - quote - > Interesting. > I just had the same problem today, unaffected by a quick and/or second level > repair. > It occurred after updating Money with a large number of new stock purchases. > I opened the program using a "test" file that I had; > Changed the opening page to the account list page; > Opened my original file; > Edited the Home Page settings to remove the Investment Performance section; > and was then able to return to the Home Page without crashing. | Interesting. I just had the same problem today, unaffected by a quick and/or second level repair. It occurred after updating Money with a large number of new stock purchases. I opened the program using a "test" file that I had; Changed the opening page to the account list page; Opened my original file; Edited the Home Page settings to remove the Investment Performance section; and was then able to return to the Home Page without crashing. I didn't have to use a backup. Did you, perchance, happen to increase the number of stock positions prior to your crash?? --ron On Fri, 29 Dec 2006 20:35:01 -0800, bubba <bubba[at]discussions.microsoft.comwrote: - quote - > I had similar crash issue recently, all the sudden when I started M07 Premium

| I had similar crash issue recently, all the sudden when I started M07 Premium on Windows XP machine it would crash on the "home page" at start up and provide the error message "Money has encountered a problem and needs to close" and the same error signature as you mention listed below: Error Signature AppName: msmoney.exe AppVer: 16.0.0.1024 ModName: msvcr80.dll ModVer: 8.0.50727.42 Offset: 0x0000e4da I decided not to use the MS Article recommendation from the "Microsoft has encountered a problem" errror message because I could read in older "backup data files" and the MS Money "Sample.mny" file into M07 and M07 seemed to work fine. From review of your note and William R Wood's 913/2006 note with subject "Troubleshooting method", I decided instead to change the "my default home page" from the default "My Money home page" and have now been able to update my older saved backuped file, save it to a new *.mny file, and read it back into M07. I had changed my default startup/home page to the "bank account view page" and everything seems to work fine. It appears that there is an issue with something on the "My Money Home Page" as you suggest in your note. --- Thanks for the help "Greg" wrote: - quote - > To follow-up, I was able to narrow the issue down further. | To follow-up, I was able to narrow the issue down further. I changed my start page, and the error no longer happens on startup, but crashes when I switch to the home page. Further troubleshooting reveals that it's tied to a specific component on the home page: Investment Performance Hopefully this helps others who encounter this issue. | I have a problem that I've been able to narrow down to this: I have an a large number (99) of investments (stocks/bonds/indexes,etc). and Everytime I add the 100th investment, Money crashes. I've tried loading the program on 2 seperate machines with the same results. Faulting application msmoney.exe, version 16.0.0.621, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.42, fault address 0x0000e4da. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Is anyone else expericing this issue? TIA |
