| In addition to Cal's description, two points: 1. It often doesn't work -- prices still get downloaded. I've not been able to figure out the pattern. 2. If you then repurchase a security, then it sometimes continues to work -- i.e., won't download prices for the security. I've not been able to figure out the pattern here either. -- Michael Gordon "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:gts4i25a6qirlvrcodfr8h19noipe7fmvc[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Fred Todt wrote: > > I just upgraded to 2007 trial version (from 2003) and I find what appears > > to > > be an undocumented item, so I'm wondering what it does. > Go ahead and click. Go ahead and click. You will then see a description. It does not> be an undocumented item, so I'm wondering what it does. actually act until you press another button on the resulting popup. - quote - > I'm on the Portfolio Manager screen, and on the left side, I click on Other
That thinning out you describe would be nice. But no, it is supposed> Tasks-> More-> and there's a "Clear historical quotes" menu item. Note that Money does not reclaim space in files every time, but will> file, give it a try and report back. free up unused space each time it sees that the file has grown more than some amount. So don't assume it did not help if the effect is not immediate. |

| I just upgraded to 2007 trial version (from 2003) and I find what appears to be an undocumented item, so I'm wondering what it does. I'm on the Portfolio Manager screen, and on the left side, I click on Other Tasks-> More-> and there's a "Clear historical quotes" menu item. I don't find it documented in the help file, nor in the FAQ, nor on this newsgroup, yet. I'm wondering if anyone's been brave enough to click on it and could tell us what it does? Does it reduce the size of your file? How much? I would hope it does NOT just do a wholesale deletion of all historical quote information, because then it would no longer be possible to (easily) determine the value of your portfolio for any given date. Ideally (IMO), it would just clear out weekday quotes, leaving 1) Friday quotes, 2) last-day-of-month quotes, and 3) last-day-of-year quotes. Or, better yet, it would let you customize the "clearing" process to achieve something like that. Can anyone report back on how this option works? If not, I'll backup up my file, give it a try and report back. Thanks, Fred |
