Use a version older than Money 2006 so you can keep overwriting your
backup-- including the potential for overwriting a good backup with
a problem file.

Cal - instead of just filling up the flash drive with backups - how do I get
Money to
overwrite the old file ?

I am not sure if you are being humorous. Assuming not, then I was
proposing that with Money 2006 or Money 2007, you could let several
(perhaps 8) backups accumulate on the flash drive. This would be a
fairly small percent of the capacity of the average flash drive sold
today. Then at some point you would prune away the older ones,
perhaps leaving your latest 3 backups to the flash drive.

So there would be no hurry to get 8 accumulated, but it would happen
eventually with continued use of Money 2006 or Money 2007.

Make sure the USB flash drive is much larger than 3 MB.

After you have about 8 accumulated backups, delete the oldest 5
using Windows Explorer.

Ok there is a new problem....when I go to backup onto USB key

of which there is about 1.5mb on it ...well when I go to backup it
just creates another 1.5mb making it 3.0mb it does not overwrite it

how do I solve this ?

Like other database programs, data is saved as you enter it.

Money is continually updating the current when you change something
and when you exit Money or switch to open different Money file.

To "Save As...", copy the file, using Windows, to a different name
while Money does not have that file open.

You "back it up" - this generates a .mbf file(s).

I'm not sure what you mean by "update".

In general, you don't ever "save" a money file unless doing something
esoteric like a file restore.

Please identify version, exact message, precise circumstances, etc.
