kevin -
thanx for the response. the pid problem is a fair number of serial numbers
are not in the ms database. consequently, when attempting to get help, it
comes back as an invalid serial number and can't be submitted. that's what i
call a novel way to minimize support calls. supposedly it's a fixed problem,
but tain't.

re: editing category groups, that appears to be a locked/ms defined set of
objects. in the category view, it's easy to modify a category. tho, the rt
hand column is 'category group', the field i'd like to chg. that's the fly
in the ointment. i'd like to further define the groups and can't.

as for the manual, yes the ? will open a seachable, context sensitive help -
that's good. tho, the user guide is an online html based file that has no
search capabilities - that's bad. w/out the search capability, one has to
skim/read thru much that has nothing to do w/the issue at hand. being
'bleeding edge' sfw, the dummies, o'reilys and who(m)ever else in the world
have not had time to catch up to the current version. i imagine they will by
year's end.

one of these days i'm going to learn to wait long enough for all the
ancillary support sources to catch up to the sfw. before buying the sfw. oh
well, live and learn - not.

hobbesotr,

Not sure what you mean by the famous PID problem.

Re: Catagories: From "Home" on the left side panel, under "Account List
click on "More" > Catagories and Payees.

Re: Manual: The help file is searchable, click on the "?" in the upper right
hand corner. There might be a "Dummies" manual.

Hope this helped.

Default Money 2007 - Category Groups

Just installed and am getting used to Money 2k7 after more than a decade of
using a competitor's product. There's definitely a learning curve, but
things 'seem' to be working fine. I'm especially pleased how easy it was to
set up the institution online functions.

Now, in addition to the famous 'PID' problem that's so prevalent, I have a
couple queststions. First of all, is there any way to add, delete, change a
listed 'Category Group'? A bit more flexibility in that area would be great.

Also, is there ANY way to download/obtain an off-line manual?!? In
particular, one that's SEARCHABLE. The current version is basically
worthless w/out the ability to search for specifics. Even an index would be
better then current.

Other then that, so far so good. I think it's going to, in the long run, be
superior to the competition. Just needs a few tweaks to make it a bit more
user friendly. Thanx!
