Yes, you can rename the accounts yourself with no problem. What I was
referring to was the fact that -- even when I added the dummy account
through "my FI is not listed" -- MS MONEY renamed one of the preexisting
accounts to match one of the FI names in the list. IMO, that's an anomaly in
the program's behavior.

My experiementation showed that after I had created the multiple
accounts that I could rename the first without any impact on the
remaining accounts.

a brokerage account, as i understand it, is an account where
individual stocks are trades, an investment account is for mutual
funds. the list on money allows two accounts, one investment account
and one brokerage account. i should clarify, this is the TRP breaks
them down. a brokerage account is treated separetly.

The suggestion to tell money that my Finincial Istitution is not in
the list seems to have worked. I'll let everyone know.

And everyone:

Thank you for all your help and input. it is greatly appreciated.

Umm . . . I was actually agreeing with you on that, Art.

And I don't think any of us gets the whole renaming issue yet.

Susan

Your best bet if you do not plan on using online services is to claim
that your financial institution is not in the list. If you claim it is
in the list then the new paradigm is used that only need the FI and the
sign on information and everything else is filled in for you. This
actually works very effectively in that Money will ask the FI, how many
accounts exist under this username password and downloads everything.

But if you wish to do them manually then admitting that the FI is in the
list short circuits many of the questions that used to be asked. This
appears to be a short coming in Money 2006. Not certain where it first
occurred as I like you have been using Money for many years and most of
my accounts were set up prior to this version. I do however remember
setting up 4 fidelity accounts manually in very early days and when I
set up the online access in Money 2005 it found 2 other accounts that
were my accounts but I had no plans on entering into Money. Also when I
entered my Wife's account and separate username password, it then
duplicates all of our joint accounts.

Hope you now have things straight.

It seemed worth a try on a copy of your file. Actually the idea came
from somebody much more knowledgeable than I am.

Why ? I might speculate that the one that does not say
"- Brokerage" is only for 401k accounts. OK. And suppose somebody
would be assumed to only have one 401k account. A wild idea, since
somebody could have 401k accounts with two different employers. But
something along that line. I don't know. We know that it would be a
stab. If you know that there is a classification of "brokerage" that
your accounts don't match, I can understand your thought that it
would be futile.

At their website I entered "Microsoft Money" into the search box,
and found this.
http://www.troweprice.com/common/ind...3D7860,00.html
The Money 2006 method seems to mirror what you are doing already,
and I expect the process has not changed for Money 2007.

I'm still having difficulty - if they're not "brokerage" accounts, then what
are they? Investments in four different mutual funds? And, if that's the
case, why not have one account holding the four different investments?

money seems to only me to set up one account. If i say it's a trp
account i get one account, i have not tried it, but it seems that if i
set up a trp account and a trp brokerage account, that would give me
two accounts, because there are two listings for trp, one labeled trp

That's exactly what I did to try to reproduce the problem, and one of my
real accounts still got renamed to "T. Rowe Price Brokerage."

It works, but there's still something a little odd there. All my accounts
have been set up for many versions now, but I think the account setup
process has been munged somewhat.

Default Re: multiple accounts

I have read this through to the end and even tried to add TRP accounts.
What it appears that you are doing is when you select add an account
and then TRP you are then answering the questions that you do not have
an on-line password and do not wish to ask for one. The result is the
account is generated.

Normally at this point Money would download all of your accounts from
TRP but since you have chosen not to download or possibly some of the
accounts may not download. Thus when you create the second account you
need to indicate that your financial institution is not in the list.
This allows set up of a account when you do not down load the
information automatically. Set up the remaining three accounts. Next
open each one separately and select TRP as the FI. You can also at this
point enter account numbers and other information you wish to maintain
in money. Also rename your first account to the name you choose and edit
in other information as desired.

Hope this helps. Just tried it and was able to set up your account
structure.

I'm confusing something, but i dont think it's that.

I have four groups of investmetns at TRP; these area a 401K, a taxable
account an IRA and a roth ira,

I want to have each of these shown in money.

I add an account, label it 401K, and then add another account, but it
gives me that note i referenced previously, and then changes the name
of the 401k to investment.

I am sure if i add an account using TRP brokerage, it would add it,
but i don't have a brokerage account.

I tried what you suggested; entering a transaction, with the same
result.

I added an account, labeled it 401K
entered a transaction
added another account
the portfolio shows only one account named investment, it has the
transactin, but the name of the invesment has changed.

Default Re: multiple accounts

I have the same situation. I have a Roth IRA, a rollover regular IRA, and a
regular investment account at T. Rowe Price.

I have two accounts set up at TRP. I just named them "T. Rowe Price" and "T.
Rowe Price Retirement." You can't specify "retirement" or "nonretirement" at
anything less than account level, so they have to have different names.

In Money 05, the message about existing accounts that pops up isn't telling
you you can't do it. It's just telling you that you may end up with
duplicate accounts "when" you download. Click OK and proceed with what you
want to do.

When I tried it, it did -- oddly, IMO -- rename the one that was just "T.
Rowe Price" to "T. Rowe Price Brokerage/Investment." It did, however,
successfully create the new account.

Have you tried entering transactions in the first account before creating
the second one? Maybe it doesn't like adding a new account when there is an
empty one just sitting there.

I would give it a try, anyway.

You do see two choices for TRP in the list, right? And you tried
each?

That drop-down list thing was something you should be able to do to
change the FI on the account Settings page.

the problem is that it only lets me do this once, I can't have more
than one account at t rowe price

i want to have a 401k account, an IRA account, and a taxable account
TRP does not have autodownload to money, so i don't need that
feature, all i want to do is have more than one account in money

I suppose I could just not tell money it's with TRP.

Thank you for your work on this, perhaps i'm not understanding
somethng, but I looked at samples and there are more than one account,
but i can't enter more than one.

I tried to go thru the process. There are "T. Rowe Price" and "T.
Rowe Price Brokerage". Whichever you selected and didn't work, try
the other.

Im not using the sign in at all.

I'm just trying to set up accounts.
I select "set up new account"
it then says: Choose the type of account
and I select Investment
then it says: select bank
i click 't' and choose t rowe price
and then i get the note that says my accont list already contains
account with t rowe price;
if i continue it shows only one account with the name t row price
investment
if i change this name to 401K and go through the process again, it
changes the 401k label back to investment.

so, money allows for more than one account from the same facility? i
can't seem to make it do that.

Are you using different credentials to access these accounts at T. Rowe?
Or are they all under the same sign-in?
