Default Re: MS Money 2007 and Vista compatability

I installed Vista from DVD onto blank partition.

Money was installed from CD. After install I was able to 'restore' a
backup of my working Money file and use it - just had to ignore the
flickering screen. To get past the failing update problem, I just hit
'cancel' to not start the update.

I also found that I could see my WinXP drive, which shows under Vista
as my D:. MSMoney actually launches and runs very well by just
running the executable from the WinXP partition. I've since made
WinXP my primary boot partition - and MSMoney is no worse for the
wear. I was afraid maybe running it that way would break it.

BTW: My other MSMoney '07 issue - unrelated to Vista - is that it
does not work with Ultrasoft Money which I use on my Palm. Now
waiting to get the BETA for the new Ultrasoft Money to try.

Just the pains of always having to use the latest of all the toys....

Thanks all for building up the sense of community in these forums. Although
my (current) outcome isn't desired, it's good to be able to discuss my issues
with someone. And, I'm not venting -- I agree with both Michael and Bob that
because Vista continues to go through changes the Money team might be waiting
for the right time to perform their tests. Hopefully some of our feedback
will help them.

Since this is one of my core home apps, I've decided to set my WinXP drive
as my primary until I get the time to test/hack more. If I discover anything
new, I'll be sure to post it to this forum.

dWiz - so after isntalling Money to Vista Ultimate, you were able to launch
without issue huh? Did you have to change it to run as admin or in
compatibility mode or did it work just fine for you? Did you install from a
DVD/CD or did you do what I did -- download the install from Digital River,
extract to a temporary location on another PC (because Vista wouldn't extract
the download), and then burn to a CD and install from there? Thanks for any
tips, since I'm excited to run with RC1 if possible.

Brent

I haven't tried that combination! But I am not surprised that it doesn't
work. It is normally very late in the day before MS get around to testing
their own applications with a new OS; after all why should a small team
spend effort testing against a product that is still undergoing change.

BTW Michael is just an end user like the rest of us MVPs. We have no "team"!

Brent,

I've used Money2007 with Vista (Ultimate and Enterprise) and have only
had two issues.... ya "just" two.... so far.

Have not seen the VS message you describe.

1) On startup, just after I sign on, I get a message that I must
update. When I click OK to update, but the update fails everytime.

2) Occaisionally, Money will 'flicker' several times. It is as if
something is trying to grab focus away from it. It completely
disrupts use, and is quite irritating.

Doesn't help your problem, but FYI....

I was going to try it, but, lacking a Promise 20276 IDE RAID driver for
Vista, didn't get far.

Thanks for the response, Michael.

Have you or anyone on your team attempted to install and run it on Vista
yet? If not, I'd be suprised. I'm curious if you were able to achieve
success.

If not, I'll continue to do my part and let you know how it goes. I've read
elsewhere that it's been done, but I thought to check with the "pros" before
trying more myself ... I'm a self-proclaimed OS geek and am usually pretty
good at figuring these problems out.

Thanks,
Brent

Default MS Money 2007 and Vista compatability

Hi there -
I'm running Vista RC1 and am unable to launch MS Money 2007 Premium. When I
click to launch it I get the startup sound and then, immediately after, I get
a an error message with a request to open the error in Visual Studio. If I
choose to run the link and/or actual msmny.exe file as administrator and/or
in compatibility mode, it launches without a sound and immediately dies (with
no error).

I'm really hoping you might have some suggestions for me.

Thanks in advance for your assistance,
Brent
