| I have my 401k contributions from my paycheck transferred to my Vanguard retirement account which will be sent to the Cash Transactions section. I've adjusted the contributions to include the employer matching but I'm still having problems to get it to balance. For some reason, I still have $25.38 left over in my cash Contributions($) when it should be $0. What could I be doing wrong? In the AccountList, right-click the account. Under General> However, since I am tracking Gross pay and it requires me to specify all > taxes, deductions and 401k contributions. To toggle back and forth you can use Ctrl+T. However, since I am tracking Gross pay and it requires me to specify all taxes, deductions and 401k contributions. I am transfering ~$100 each paycheck before taxes to Vanguard (Contributions) for my 401k investment. When I change the Add Shares actiity to Buy it'll ask where the fund is Transfering from so I specify Vanguard (Contributions). The problem I now see is that I'll get a Negative balance in my Cash Transactions. I think this is due to my company matching 50% for Contributions. So all my Cash transactions are just what I contribute, but not what my company matches as well. So I am now again at a stump. I guess I can completely go back to just tracking Net pay and not transfer my 401k deductions to my Vanguard(Contributions) but I'd really like to eep track of all transcations if possible. |

I'm also not sure what you mean by Buy because I don't see > that command anywhere.. Thanks for the help. *should* do. Somebody else might just get rid of the Cash Transactions section, and that would not make them not right. That would be an easy thing that might appeal to you. However then you would not want to show the money from your paycheck as a transfer to the Vanguard (Contributions) register. Look at the Investment Transactions section of the Vanguard register. In the upper right, does it say "Advanced Register" or does it say Does it say "Essential Register". If it does not say I would set Tools-> Settings-> AccountSettings(global)-> DisplayAllAccountsInTheAdvancedAccountRegister Then in the Vanguard register again, do you have a column called Activity? If so, I would change any AddShares to Buy. What do you see in the Activity column. I would also go to multiple-line format, but others like single line. To toggle back and forth you can use Ctrl+T. |

When I track Gross pay, under the "Deductions Before Taxes" tab, I have an "Insurance: Health" category for my HMO/dental plan. For my 401k contributions I add another category in that tab to "Transfer To: Vanguard account." Is this the way I'm supposed to track my 401k from my paycheck? When I update my Vanguard account it updates the funds I have shares in and the transfers that were from my Paycheck go into a seprate cash Contributions($) category which doubles the total value of all my investments. I'm also not sure what you mean by Buy because I don't see that command anywhere.. Thanks for the help. |

If you have the data, I think the best way is to have that Contributions account, and when you purchase mutual funds, you use a Buy rather than AddShares. That way the contribution money is depleted when the shares are purchased. There are other ways too. |

| I have a Vanguard investment account that keeps track of my 401k contributions and it is split into 2 seperate categores. "Company Stock Purchase Fund" and "Vanguard LifeStrategy Conservative Growth Fund (VSCGX)." MS Money recommended that I track my Gross income instead of Net so I switched to track Gross pay for my paychecks and had an entry to transfer 401k contributions to my Vanguard account. What I don't understand now is that it adds another category in my Vanguard account named Contributions($). Now my Total acount values are not correct because it seems to be doubled. Can someone please explain the correct way to track 401k with Vanguard please? thanks. |
