| Look at download.com. There are a few progs for personal financial management. They are typically targeted at a user with basic, simple requirements. | Yes, look at Moneydance.com Simple to use and way faster, cleaner and smaller than Money. But if you want your hand held, I would suggest Money Essentials. | We can call anything anything. At some level, it's all just semantics. Back to the OPs request: wrh61 wants "simple" software that: a) downloads statements. By the definition that an OFX file is a statement, then Money qualifies. Per his/her request, MEss might make this somehow simpler than Money or Quicken, but I'm not sure how much simpler it really is because I don't know what wrh61 finds un-simple in M/Q. Setting up the download? Doing something with the statement once downloaded? b) organize statements. By the definition that an OFX file is a statement, then the result of using Money, MEss or otherwise, is to organizing "statements" (=OFX files) as peanut butter is to peanuts in the shell. Anybody else that wants to take a swing at the OPs question is more than welcome to. p.s., I'll bet you can whip out a printout of an OFX "statement" to a customer service Vice President (you know, anybody who isn't a janitor) at any bank in the country, tell them "I have a question about my statement...", start pointing at the "statement", and get noting better than a really dull clueless stare. (Granted, you might only do slightly better with a traditional "statement" in hand.) But it's all just semantics. An OFX download would seem to meet these definitions: http://www.investorwords.com/56/account_statement.html http://glossary.global-investor.com/...116&PopupMode= Here is a search that incorporates "statement" and "OFX": http://beta.search.live.com/results.....y=0&go=Search So while you may prefer to call an OFX file a collection of transaction and balance data, many do reasonably call it a statement. |

| Just to be clear, I download an OFX file that contains the transaction data from day 1 of my last issued statement to day 28/30/31 of that statement. This imports directly in Money. -- Peace, BobJ "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:ORqHRx61GHA.4924[at]TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... - quote - > Yah, but you download the "statement" with a browser, right? | Yah, but you download the "statement" with a browser, right? And then it's a what? A .PDF or similar? I guess were I'm coming from is that if you download an .OFX file, it's not a "statement", it's transaction data. If it's some kind of nice human-readable statement, I don't know of any interface to Q, M, EasyMoney, MoneyDance, GNUcash, etc., that can do anything with it. It's just a pretty human-readable statement replete with ads and logos and balance-by-day and cleared item sections and yield information and mailing addresses and so forth. Perhaps I should have answered that IE or Firefox, Adobe Reader, and Windows Explorer is what the OP needs to "download and organiz[e] bank statements"? You know: Open the statement in the Adobe Reader control from the browser, and then do a file save as, say, my documents\downloaded statements\2006\my bank checking\2006-09-31 statement.pdf. Sounds like it meets both requirements of 1) download statements and 2) organize statements to me. I guess my assumption was that wrh61 was looking for *slightly* more value-add than that. Perhaps not. "Marilyn & Bob" <Privacy[at]nospam.please> wrote in message news:uVAULf61GHA.1040[at]TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... - quote - > Some banks allow you to download statements from their website. | Some banks allow you to download statements from their website. For example I have two MBNA (BoA) credit card accounts which provide statement downloads. They do not provide real time transaction downloads, so I have to wait for the statement to be produced each month in order to download my transactions into Money. -- Peace, BobJ "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:ejVTJo51GHA.1252[at]TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... - quote - > You might try the trial of Money Essential. | You might try the trial of Money Essential. You sound like the type of user I think they target with that product. There is a trial version available on the website. But it doesn't download "statements". I'm not sure any software does that, per se.
