Asking for a password is Money's way of saying that you are trying to use an
earlier version of the program to open your .mny file. You need to install
the same version of Money that was used to write the file or upgrade to a
newer version.

The version of Money installed needs to be at least as new as the
version that created the file that you are trying to open.

Default No Password and yet asks for Password

Recently I had my computer's mother go bad. I took my harddrive out
and connected it to another computer and was able to succesfully save
all of my files or so I thought.

I ported my Microsoft Money 2002 file to the my laptop.

I reinstalled Microsoft Money on my laptop.

I attempted to open my Microsoft Money filte

I got a unexpected surprise when I found this pop up. See link below

http://ifollowhim.googlepages.com/moneypassword.jpg

I was certain I had never password protected my money file

I tried every password in my password using history list. To no avail.

I searched the internet to see what others have been finding.

I found many programs that open MM files up to 2001.

I found mainly only 1 program that claimed to open MM 2002 files.

I downloaded a trial version of this program.

I used the program to learn what my password might be.

THe program said there is no password on this file. See link below

I tried to again open that same file with Microsof Money

I got this message
http://ifollowhim.googlepages.com/moneypassword.jpg

And the loop starts over here

I don't know what to do or try as I have 2 plus years of fincial info
locked away in MM file that has no password.
