| If you chose the backup option to be prompted each time you can change the file name in there. I am not running M2006 so can't be sure of the exact sequence but it is certainly in the backup options. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. I probably wouldnt of had much of a problem if it would initially done that, but that is not what happened. Like anything else, I more than likely get use to it. I tended to back up on a monthy basis since my first big problems in 98 or 99. It is funny thought the back up is listed correctly in the preferences. I should upgrade to 2007 anyways. Hopefully they fixed the other bugs. Glad I am the only one that has some adversions to certain changes lol thanks , appreciate the input |

| hi, Sure, no problem. I guess like most, we all get stuck in our usual routine, and for the the most part like things consistant. The back up indeed, comes from an earlier version (2005), though that backup has been running consistance since version 2000, though could be earlier, and this is the first time I cam across it. haven't had major problems with money since 98 I think "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:3phpf2dd2126g00180s0kv3ff8pcjcbrgb[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Bruce wrote: > > Sarcasm does not do you well. > I could have done it a lot better. > It was not just me telling you about the backup from Money 2006. > Dick Watson had said "The new naming scheme is just the way it > works." > > > If I was not clear enough. | Not possible. If it's really a hangup, and apparently it is, create a wrapper script that calls Money, and then, on exit, renames the file. | Sure, just change the settings to save only one backup. But why would you want to do this? Unless you have almost no space left on your hard drives, it would be very useful to have multiple backups. If you leave the default at four, when you get to number five, it will delete number one. -- Peace, BobJ "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:848pf2dh3nck8n9biibiqo6uh8fk9bf91d[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Bruce wrote: > > Is there a way to make the program automatically back up to my money > > backup, > > when exiting, rather than the new name? > Gee, did I forget to state that clearly? > > > > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message > > news:5loof25cdg23d021jc2dut8u0cq59v4032[at]4ax.com... > > > In microsoft.public.money, Bruce wrote: > > > > > > Problem was that in the start, where it has 4 or 5 programs listed, they > > > > accidently got switched the the upper tier, then it said the ink which > > > > it > > > > was pointed to was incorrect. > > > > > Normally the only entry for a given version in the start menu would > > > be one that pointed to msmoney.exe. | Sarcasm does not do you well. If I was not clear enough. I have used 2006 for quite awhile. IT always backed up simply on exit to my money backup.mbf, It did not (at least in my documents create any other back ups, though when I checked in preferences it said 3. Now when I exit it backs up (automatically) to my money backup_2006-09-04_some other numbers. I know I can back up manually to my money backup.mbf. On exit I would prefer it to back money up to the default backup file? If possible. Is it possible you are comparing the *.mny file with a compressed *.mbf file? Is it possible you turned off compression of your backup file? Perhaps you have compression turned on for your "scheduled" backup but not for your Automatic backup. |

So by default, if I remember correctly, Money will keep the most recent 4 backups. That number can be increased, and if you have a large drive, I would suggest that the number of retained backups be increased. Among the problems this fixes are people having something unwanted happen in the file, exiting Money, and having the single good backup automatically overwritten with the file with the unwanted change. Additionally, with even more backups, the user can go back to an earlier point in time. I did not understand the bit about the start menu. Why did you want a single backup that always had the same name? |

| Make backup from File|Backup, not the backup options for auto backups. The new naming scheme is just the way it works. Since they could write multiple files in a loop (say, last seven) they needed some way to create unique filenames. This is it. Money files are alright after an initial problem, but now, my back up files always wants to put the year, and other numbers. I just want a simple backup, I checked the preferences, and it is correct in the box. Even if I deleted the other back up, it doesn't back up to my money backup.mbf. Anyway to clear this up. thanks |
