It could be. I would tend to make the "Opening Balance" zero, and
enter a regular transaction that pre-dates the others to compensate
for where I started. It might not have a payee or category. The memo
would state that it was an adjustment for prior un-entered
transactions. That way it is easier to see and get to. However
entering the number as the "Opening Balance" in the account settings
is certainly normal and common.

Reply: The first entry for Discover is a credit. That shows a red balance.
The next several charges are in the charge column and the balance is showing
as black. Should the opening balance be a credit? I already had the
accounts before I started using Money and the first entry was a payment.

Thanks.

Within a credit card account, the balanced is what you owe. A black
balance of $100 in the register would correspond to the bottom of
the register saying "You Owe 100.00".

On the starting balance for a credit card, a positive number is
money you owe. Sometimes people put a negative number in when they
owe money. Money interprets this as if you had a credit balance to
start. What you probably want to do is to go to the starting balance
for each credit card account and change any negative number there to
a positive number.

Default Credit Cards Total Due Show in Black instead of Red

Some of the amounts I owe on credit cards are shown in red print. Some that
I owe balances on show as black which should mean no balance.

How do I change this?

Thanks,
Mary
