| Ah - all becomes clear! ;-) Yes you can export to QIF and import (make sure you use Ctrl + click to select all accounts to be imported or transfers will get double counted). | I guess I did not explain my problem correctly. I want to move the .mny file from a computer running XP & Money 2004 to a different computer running W95 & Money 2000. On my old computer I can still open the file that I moved to XP & upgraded to Money 2004. I now want to try to move the updated data on the Money 2004 back to moy old computer running Money 2000. I intend to update my XP from SP1 to SP2 & knowing me I will probably screw it up. It seems that it might not be possible to do. The only thing I can think of is to export the Money 2004 in QIF (?????) & import it into Money 2000. Thanks for the help in advance. | Yes it should work. The password request is Money's way of telling you that you can't read a file produced by a later version of Money in an earlier version. You must find the .mnx file and rename that to end in .mny. But be aware that you will have lost all transactions that you have input since you upgraded to M2004. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | I am trying to do a similar thing. I am trying to go from Money 2004 to Money 2000. When I double click on the .mny file it will ask for a password. If I ope Money 2000 and try a restore on either the .mny or .mbf file it ask for a password. I am not using a password on the Money 2004 file. Will what is said below work? Thanks in advance. | Thank you so much for your help Art -- I found the file, renamed it and am back in business! I had only put in a handful of entries so it won't be a problem catching up at all! Thanks again! |

| When Money 2006 updated your file, it left behind the original Money 2000 file with the extension MN8 (did not verify) rename this file to have an extension of MNY and you can then open it in Money 2000. | See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=17. If you haven't entered many transactions in M06, this is pretty straightforward. As to your M06 issues, the one re. how categories are handled, if you mean the single vs. dual pulldowns, that can be solved in M06 with a Tools|Settings Category Settings change. Re. multiple item select projected balance, this is a popular complaint. ('I'm assuming this is what you meant by both forecasting balances, and showing what the new balance will be when highlighting an item in bill summary. OTOH, you could have meant Forecast Cash Flow. You have to get one of the Deluxe versions for that. Agreed, this is sad, but there it is.) I'm no great fan of M05/6 and just changed to M07 only because it enabled a "repair" method that, with a lot of work, significantly improved performance and file size and for continued supportability. (See http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm, http://umpmfaq.info/Money2006.htm, and http://umpmfaq.info/Money2007.htm.) That having been said, M06 (or, better, M07) would probably provide better long-term supportability for you than M2K. <jmlisser[at]dorner.com> wrote in message news:1156682764.730942.10150[at]75g2000cwc.googlegroups.com... - quote - > I bought a new computer with Money 2006 already installed on it > (OEM-Standard). | I bought a new computer with Money 2006 already installed on it (OEM-Standard). I own MS Money 2000. When I transferred the files from the old computer and opened it with new the version of Money it seemed to be less user-friendly but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I found out I am missing key features (forecasting balances, showing what the new balance will be when highlighting an item in bill summary, how categories are handled). These far outweight the 1 nice feature I found of showing a calendar at the bottom of the bills summary. I loaded MS Money 2000 on the computer. I can't open the MS Money 2006 file, it keeps giving me a password prompt even though I know for sure I'm enterring the correct one. My CD backup of the money data from the old computer is corrupt so I can't use it as a restore. (I would have gladly entered the last transactions again in the old version of money because I'm not sure I would like this version even if I doled out the extra cost to upgrade). Anyone know how I can get back to Money 2000 without reenterring YEARS worth of data? Any help is appreciated! |
