| After working with this for a bit, M07 behaves decidedly differently than M04. Ultimately it appears to work, but not the way I thought it would. The first time that I did on online update in M07, all of the duplicate accounts that I had asked to skip in M04 were created. I wasn't asked if I wanted to skip them, they were just created, transactions were downloaded and they had a blance. I couldn't delete them w/out deleting all of the accounts associated with that FI. I couldn't figure out how to tell M07 to ignore certain accounts. They only thing I could think of was to "stop using online services" from one of the FI's that has this problem and then go back in and "setup online services" for that FI. I did this and when I got to the point where M07 asks for my userid & password, there was an "Advanced Account Setup" option with a "More Details..." link to the help file. The more details link said: Choose this option if you know that you want Microsoft Money 2007 to skip downloading transactions for one or more of the accounts that your bank or financial institution would normally download during online updates. For example, if you have two different user names that you use to access a joint bank account online in Money, the account may be listed twice in the account list. Choose the Advanced Account Setup option to have Money give you the choice to skip downloading transactions for a specific account during online updates. Perfect! I checked the box, clicked "next" and got the familiar dialog from M04 and earlier asking how I wanted to handle all of the accounts at my FI. I selected "Don't track this account in Money" for the problem account, and went on After some investigation, I discovered what's really going on. M07 is still creating the account - it's just closed. You can't delete the closed account, without also deleting the other accounts at the FI. Fortunately, M07 seems to handle this correctly. When I tested this in M05 & M06, future online updates would continue to download transactions for the closed accounts - which would result in the closed accounts having a balance. Which would result in the "Net Worth over Time" report being WAAAY off (because of course, if you want to track your NW over time, you want it to include closed accounts - that were previously open - into the NW calculation). M07 appears to handle this correctly. Subsequent online updates produce neither transactions nor balances in the closed accounts. So the "Net Worth over time" report is still correct. So it behaves differently, but the different way appears to work correctly in M07 where it didn't work in M05/M06. If you have more than one account at an institution that you want to download from, but you don't want one to download one account that is downloading into the current Money file, Close the account in that file (right-click in the account list). Money 2007 will not fetch transactions into a closed account. This can happen when you have separate Money files but share a joint account. "Close" the joint account in one Money file to prevent the wrong Money file from downloading the joint account. - quote - > Am I only able to tell it that during initial online setup? > Thanks, > - Mark > On 2006-08-29, Vadim Rapp <vr[at]myrealbox.nospam.com> wrote: > > I had exactly the same problem. | Vadim, I'm sorry about replying to this so late, but I've finally gotten around to trying out M07. I can't seem to figure out how to enact the "don't track this account" option that you see. I have duplicate accounts with two of my FI's. In M04, I instruct it to "Skip" the accounts that I don't want to download. This is easily done during initial online setup for the FI or afterwards by clicking on "update online setup" (or whatever the actual link is - it's something like that). After making a backup, I converted my M04 file to M07. In M07 I did an online update. M07 automatically created the accounts that I would like to skip. I can't see any way to tell it to ignore those accounts. Am I only able to tell it that during initial online setup? Thanks, - Mark On 2006-08-29, Vadim Rapp <vr[at]myrealbox.nospam.com> wrote: - quote - > I had exactly the same problem. Good news: in 2007, it's finally back to > normal. | Hello Mark, I had exactly the same problem. Good news: in 2007, it's finally back to normal. You say "don't track this account" during online setup, and it does not track it. So one way to do this is to let the account exist but mark it closed in one of the Money files. Let us know if that works for you. |

| Perhaps I didn't explain the problem clearly enough. The problem is when you have two seperate account owners at a single financial institution (FI). For example, my wife has an account at one of our FI's that she own's. I have a different account at the same FI that I own, and between us we have a joint account. For a total of 3 accounts at that FI. When I try to setup these accounts in the 2005 and 2006 versions, Money tries to convince me that I have 4 accounts: my account, my wife's account and two joint accounts. This happens because I have to connect to my FI twice: once for my account information and once for my wife's account information. And of course when I do that, Money sees that that there's a joint account in both connections. In 2004 (and previous) you could tell Money to skip any of the accounts at a given FI. In 2005 & 2006 the "skip" option was no longer available. I was wondering if 2007 either: a) reintroduced the "skip account" function, or b) came up with some other way of dealing with duplicate joint accounts Thanks, - Mark On 2006-08-23, CanaKiwi <john_hastie[at]nospamhotmail.com> wrote: - quote - > I'm not using 2007 but I think what you are describing is a limitation or a > problem with your bank not with money per se. > I'm using the 2006 version and I have 2 CC accounts, one with BofA and > another with CitiBank. | I'm not using 2007 but I think what you are describing is a limitation or a problem with your bank not with money per se. I'm using the 2006 version and I have 2 CC accounts, one with BofA and another with CitiBank. I also have other accounts at both of these banks. At BofA I must manually download my CC transactions but at Citi everything comes down correctly automatically. | In previous versions of Money (2005 & 2006) there was a duplicate account problem. I described it previously here: http://groups.google.com/group/micro...a41a7b3e0efcaf http://groups.google.com/group/micro...b1de03d4a5d911 I've searched the group for comments from current M07 users about whether this problem still exists, but haven't found it. If I missed it, my apologies. Would you kindly send me a pointer? If I didn't miss it, has anyone who's using M07 seen this problem? TIA - Mark |
