| Hi Dick, I saw that you solved your sounds problem -- a complete uninstall/reinstall shouldn't be necessary, but -- as I'm sure you know -- often is (with programs other than Money also). The new features of M07 will be attractive to some folks -- but not all -- so by all means wait for M08. -- Michael Gordon MVP "DickK" <DickK[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:39EF7711-A312-41F7-B942-9FC8EEA7C5E7[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Michael, > It's not always easy to track cause and effect on PCs but when you take > one > action like installing the trial version of Money 2007 and lose sound on > Money 2006, it's pretty easy to spot. | Thanks Dick, Your advice worked! A complete uninstall of Money 2006, a reboot, then an install and like magic the sounds are back. Life is again good! | Michael, It's not always easy to track cause and effect on PCs but when you take one action like installing the trial version of Money 2007 and lose sound on Money 2006, it's pretty easy to spot. I am happy to say that I have corrected the problem by completely uninstalling Money 2006, rebooting, then installing it again. That worked but it shouldn't have been necessary. I have a Dell 8250 with 512 MB and gobs of hard disk running Windows XP and it's been virtually troublefree so I don't believe that's the problem especially since a software change fixed it. What made matters even more intolerable was the lackluster collection of new of features in Money 2007. I looked all over 2007 and couldn't see any meaningful difference between it and 2006. It was disappointing and I'll be waiting for Money 2008 in hopes that it will provide the incentive to upgrade. | I might think about Add/Remove programs uninstall of all things Money and then a reinstall. This has been reported before--prior versions/prior trials--but a very quick search of the archives (advanced search of group microsoft.public.money at http://groups.google.com) didn't reveal a fix. You might search there as well. "DickK" <DickK[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:87F7BD23-C132-4FBE-9F3D-27466ABA4E21[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Thanks for the help Dick! | Thanks for the help Dick! I checked each of the 4 items you suggested: 1) Sounds are most definitely on in Money 2006 2) Checked in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\MNYCoreFiles\sounds and all the sound files are there. 3) Checked in the Sounds Control Panel for Sounds|Program Events|Microsoft Money and herein lies the problem. Lots of events are listed like Windows, Netmeeting, Windows Explorer, etc. but NO Microsoft Money. It was there before installing Money 2007 Deluxe but vanished after it was installed. I uninstalled Money 2007 and nada. I even tried System Restore in vain as it won't restore any of my checkpoints. There's got to be someway of turning Progam events on in the Sounds Control Panel but I'll be dogone if I know how. 4) I reinstalled Money 2006 from my retail CD. I'll keep looking but it certainly is frustrating since Microsoft caused this problem and I can't believe I'm the only one who has lost Sound after installing Money 2007. I do appreciate your advice. Thanks again! "Dick Watson" wrote: - quote - > The trial version does not include the sound files. | The trial version does not include the sound files. Why reinstalling M06 did not restore them is another question. There seem to be three or maybe four possibilities. 1) The sounds are set off as Cindy suggests. 2) The sounds did not get re-installed. Check in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\MNYCoreFiles\sounds 3) The event associations aren't correct. Check in the Sounds Control Panel Sounds|Program Events|Microsoft Money. 4) You reinstalled from something besides a regular retail CD--like a downloaded install file. That *may* need an Online Update or similar. I Can't say how sounds are handled for, say, an M06 trial upgrading to a full licensed--online--version of M06. | Installed trial version of Money 2007 Deluxe and lost all sounds in Money 2006 Deluxe. Also, there were no sounds in 2007. Uninstalled 2007 and still nothing in the Control Panel under Sounds. Reinstalled 2006 Deluxe and still nada. How do I get my Sounds back in 2006 Deluxe? Thanks! |
