If you feel a need (or strong desire) to have dividends entered as deposits into the Cash Transactions rather than as dividends into the Investment Transactions register (which also shows the dividend transferred into the Cash Transactions), then you could logically reach that conclusion. I have a strong preference to have dividends entered as dividends, so I would not reach that conclusion. OK, even with your desire, the downloading could be advantageous. 1. You would still download buys and sells, which I assume you like. 2. You would download split data. 3. You would download position data that could be compared to your holdings in your file. 4. You would download any fees, credits, or debits. 5. You could mark the downloaded dividend Void, and then in the Cash Transactions you would have the amount and date handy for entering your dividend transaction by hand. One advantage of having dividend entered as dividends is that the gain is associated with that investment, so it is included into the total gains calculation. Also, if you use tax estimates, then the tax estimating could be improved over having them as deposits where they would either be thought of as regular income or not taxable at all. Yet there are a number of people who prefer entering all data by hand always. One of their motivations is that they can check their data against the institution's data to catch mistakes. - quote - > Regards > Pieter > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message > news:8jo8e2lu5i82e1a1qpnn1kcsbn0f9imbc1[at]4ax.com... > > In microsoft.public.money, Pieter wrote: > > > > I am using Money 2007 and downloading (not importing) transaction > > > statements > > > from E*TRADE. > > > > > When the statement contains interest or divident transactions Money > > > insists > > > on assigning an investment to those transactions? > > > How can I get Money to treat those transactions as cash only transactions? > > > I don't think you can, and I cannot think why you would want that. > > You could say No during the download and have the transaction > > voided. | Carl, thanks for the reply. So basically it seems that there is no value in using E*TRADE automatic downloads, i.e. if I have to manually fix or void every downloaded transaction then I may just as well enter them by hand. I don't think you can, and I cannot think why you would want that.> from E*TRADE. > When the statement contains interest or divident transactions Money insists > on assigning an investment to those transactions? > How can I get Money to treat those transactions as cash only transactions? You could say No during the download and have the transaction voided. Then go enter the deposit by hand in the cash transactions. I am not recommending this, but it is the closest way to accomplish what you say you want. - quote - > When Money matches a downloaded stock transaction with an entry I manually

You can say it is a different transaction and then say No to void the bogus download. Then select the manually entered transaction and press Ctrl+M or right-click.... If that is not what you meant, then "you can't." So do you download bogus transactions from E-trade often? |

| I am using Money 2007 and downloading (not importing) transaction statements from E*TRADE. When the statement contains interest or divident transactions Money insists on assigning an investment to those transactions? How can I get Money to treat those transactions as cash only transactions? When Money matches a downloaded stock transaction with an entry I manually created, Money overwrites the transaction details, so instead of seeing e.g. purchased 100 MSFT at 100, I just see Jdbl. How can I get Money to clear the transaction, but not overwrite the transaction details? Regards Pieter |
