Thanks for the links. I have used forums before and it is my understanding
that fellow users like myself try to help each other. That is why I am trying
in my replies to give some input in return. The ultimate experience will be
when I actually try to upgrade. I think in the spirit of mutual self-help I
should address the issues raised here in upgrading.

Hyam, this is an umoderated site! You may occasionally find MS posting but
don't rely on it as a communications channel.

Otherwise we are all end users here like yourself.

Thank you for your input Mak.

From the Microsoft Knowledge Base, it seems that conversions are possible
back to 2000 versions of Money. Hoewever, I have taken note of your remarks.
There is a Knowledge Base article that provides a link to download earlier
trial versions of money. This article was indended for 1998 and 1999 versions
of Money, but should work if needed for Money 2000. The URL for this article
is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913108. There are other KB articles that
provide various workarounds, including the QIF file export option.

If you know of similar links to the Canadian versions of Money you
mentioned, please let me know.

To all who are contributing to this discussion, I would like to announce
that, thanks to your comments and advice, I have taken the plunge and ordered
Money 2007. My main worry was if Money 2007 would work with multicurrency
accounts. The answer seems to be affirmative.

As to the conversion problem, I have never in my upgrades to new and
different versions reached a dead end. My present files date from 1996,
though I upgraded to Money 2000. I have tried to archive some old data
without success. I am still left with this huge file, with entries that are
not really relevant.

The shipping should take under 2 weeks. I will try and get back here and
report on how I managed with the upgrade. In the meantime further input will
only help in my preparations.

You'd be better off with a newsgroup reader, than reading the newsgroup on
the web. If you're using IE, you have OE, ie, Outlook Express. Poke around
in help to figure out how to set up a newsgroup. The Microsoft news server
is msnews.microsoft.com, and it's free.

Just an aside, you may not be able to upgrade from 2000 CDN to 2007 US
without converting your file using 2003 CDN first. I tried doing so with
M2006 US and it wouldn't convert the file, however, once I converted it
first with 2003 CDN, 2006 US did convert it. I haven't tried it yet with
2007 US but I wouldn't be suprised if it was still not required.

That would be extra-safe, but very unlikely to be needed. Still, the
extra effort is not that great.

Note that Money will keep of a copy of your pre-conversion Money
2000 file(s) as *.mn8.

I would suggest that when you convert, your settings are as much as
practical, the same as when you created the files. That may not be
important, but I would do it anyway.

I appreciate your input to my queiry. Please read my reply to Dick Watson.

Should I install Money 2007, the Microsoft Money site states that all
program files from 2000 on are convertible to Money 2007. By this, it is my
understanding that my 2000 files would be converted to the new 2007 version
automatically. However, as a safeguard, I would probably create QIF files
just in case.

You state that the date formatting is very important in these files. How
would I insure that the date formatting is consistent. Would it be by setting
the date in the new Money 2007 before importing the QIF files, or is it
enough that the computer system settings remain the same as now?

I want to thank you Dick for taking time to reply to my queiry. I am having
trouble viewing your reply and that of Cal Lerner. The only way I could do so
was to drag my mouse as if trying to copy the contents of your reply. I can
now read your reply in this reply window. I am using IE 7 Beta 3.

When I clicked on the link in the email notification "Read and Rate the
Response," I got a notice of an error in the URL. I had to use the second
link, "click this link to continue receiving notifications for this thread,"
to get here.

I thought of downloading the trial version and trying it. However, I have
but the one machine running Windows XP Sp2. My other computer runs Windows 98
SE.

The Money web site warns against running the trial version on a computer
with the Canadian version installed: "Users with the Canadian version will
not be able to open previous versions of Money if they download this U.S.
trial." This has made me quite reluctant to try the trial version. I don't
want to put myself in a no return situation.

As to the rest of your comments, I thinl so too, especially that the
Canadian version is just the US version in drag. That is why I don't see any
problems in switching to the US version. All the terminology is the same. In
fact, I don't see why there is really a need for a separate Canadian version.
However, after reading that FAQ page, I thought I had better check the
questions I posed out, just to be sure. After all, I don't want to sell out
50 bucks just to fimd out the program won't work.

I also don't weigh the tax reporting feature too seriously. Years ago, I did
have a version that supposedly related to lines of the US 1040 and it wasn't
very good.

Your answers though have somewhat calmed me. I have used various versions
over the years and if they basically haven't changed, they all worked on my
various systems, though the only US version I had was way back in 1995, an
OEM version with my first computer.

So it would seem that our guesses correspond. However, if I do take a chance
and get into trouble, I certainly won't blame you. My decision is my
responsibility. You are only trying to help.

Thanks.

The date setting is important when creating or reading QIF files.
Other than that, you should not have a problem there.

That is my understanding. As Dick says, the US and Canadian files
are merged to a combined format.

Dick's suggestion of trying a different computer first is also a
good idea, but not necessary. If/when you install Money 2007, pay
attention during the install. You can select to have Money 2000 not
uninstalled during the Money 2007 install. You can then run them
both one at a time. But be advised that if you uninstall Money 2007,
trial or otherwise, it will cause Money 2000 to not work without
reinstall.

Somebody here **may** know the answer to all of these questions, but I think
your best bet is to download the trial version and try it. Be sure you try
it on a copy of your file and--way best--on a separate computer so you
needn't worry how to reinstall your old version.

M07 should be able to do this as well.

M07 should accept these settings from your control panel system settings.

Maybe. I don't find it adds a lot of value to filing taxes besides having
the data collected in one place. I still don't trust its tax data reports so
much that I wouldn't independently work through the data to get an answer
myself.

M2K Canada to M07 US? That's harder to say for sure. Newer Canadian versions
are just US versions in drag. Can't say what M2K Canada was.

Default Updating to Money 2007 from Money 2000 Canadian Version

After 7 years I want to update my Canadian version of Microsoft Money 2000 to
the US Deluxe version of Money 2007.

I live in Israel and we have accounts in Israel in Israeli Shekels, Canada
in $ Canadian and the US in $US. Will Money 2007 be able to handle all these
accounts in their respective currencies? I presently have a different file
for each currency. Each file has a respective base currency. My Money 2000
Canadian Version handles these accounts and different currencies with no
problem.

My computer is configured as followes for dates: dd/mm/yyyy. In the US, the
dates are usually configured mm/dd/yyyy. My computer is configured for the
former. Will this interfere with Money 2007 US?

We are originally from North America and feel comfortable will North
American financial terminology. Since we have accounts in multiple countries
and have to file a US Tax return Money 2007 Deluxe would be a big help.

Will I be able to convert my present Money 2000 files to the new Money 2007?
