| I'm in WA, so direct connect is unavailable -- the option of MSN Money sync is a frustrating time-waster, at least that was my own experience. My previous recommendation stands -- don't use MSN Money sync for your B of A account, download the OFX file directly from B of A -- it always works, and works quite well. You can of course continue the frustration of trying to use B of A with MSN Money sync and post your narration of the experience here -- it won't change anything though. Best of luck to you whatever you choose. Art McClinton <art[at]nova.org> wrote: - quote - > The issue is which Bank of America. | The issue is which Bank of America. Early in this post someone indicated that they were using Bank Of America CA, This one does not use a Direct connection and is using the CashEdge that does require the MSN Money Sync. The ones using Bank Of America (All Except CA, WA, or ID) using a direct connection. The standard issue if anyone has this is the failure to contact Bank Of America to turn on the capability from their end. | Paul, A closer approximation of the facts is: the Microsoft Money application SUGGESTS you turn on MSN Money sync in order for it to use its integrated third-party account aggregation so you get an account setup that includes a form of automatic updates without having to use BofA's own direct service. The latter does not require MSN Money sync, may come at a price, and may not be available in all BofA service areas. An alternate solution that also don't require MSN Money sync is to setup the account using a manually entered bank name and either manually enter your transactions OR download them from the BofA website. Hope this helps, JB Paul Pedersen wrote: - quote - > On the contrary, it seems that BofA REQUIRES me to have MSN Money sync > turned on. | That really doesn't make sense -- not how B of A works for the rest of us. You should contact Money support, the number can be found in the help file, just search on 'support'. | My own experience with B of A is that might be one you want to get from the B of A website directly. The OFX file you can get there works much better than the MSN Money sync -- transactions match better, full details of the transaction come through, etc -- with MSN Money sync, they don't and you wind up checking the B of A site to confirm what the transactions are so you can type the correct description in. Overall, MSN Money sync is OK -- the concept is great -- but in actual use you'll run into a lot of quirks. You've run into one with B of A -- another example would be credit card accounts. One institution's transactions sync fine, but finance charges don't come through -- yet other credit card accounts do sync finance charges via MSN Money sync. Trying to find out why can be a real time-waster. Once you work around the quirks, it's a great product. | Apparently with BofA, you have to have MSN sync turned on. But if you do, it can get hosed and won't let you open a new account. I solved it by turning off MSN sync, deleting the account info from MSN (I don't want it there anyway! Why should my financial info be out there on the internet for any schmoe, or the government, to hack into??), then trying to create the account again. Of course, when I did that, it turned sync back on again. What a pain! Tell me again, why is it that I'm doing business with BofA?
