Default Re: Money FAQ:loan interest expense

One reason my debt value is bizarre is because, apparently, it is including
some things like amounts in categories that are not in the budget and
amounts that are income in expense accounts (returns, typically). See the
other thread for more Advanced Budget eye-opening behavior.

IIRC, the new S&S budget treats debt differently. I don't recall the
details and don't have time at the moment to review it.

Have you checked the Debt Category group?

I just checked the How I'm Doing on my Budget report, in both M04 and M07,
set to rows by category.

The transactions listed in Debt include the complete total of both of my
loan payments, plus my transfers to the one Credit Card that's managed by
DRP, plus a whole bunch of other stuff that has nothing to do with Debt--and
a different collection of this other stuff in M04 from M07.

So, I guess my point is that it may well be there (good news) but the report
may be broken for any number of other reasons (bad news). As with all
analytic data from Money, it's best to do your own due diligence and attempt
to validate what it's telling you.

I don't like, but understand why money doesn't treat loan principal payments
as expenses for the monthly budget. However, interest and escrow payments
are legitimate expenses, but still don't show up in the budget report even
if they are sepearted out in the loan payment details. Is there a way to
make money see interest and escrow payments as monthly expenses and still be
able to track the loan balance by having a loan account?
