Which balance in the account listings are you referring to? Are you aware that the 'Adjusted' balance is the result of ALL transactions, including those which have not cleared? Are you synching with your bank? If so, the 'bank' balance may be that reported by the bank on the most recent update, not the balance on a statement with which you're reconciling the account. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "BobG" <BobG[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4D314E43-A23F-461E-9B59-CD81D7DF34DE[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Cal, > Tried it and assuming I did it correctly it DID balance the account (per > the > BALANCE THIS ACCOUNT procedure)...BUT my balance that shows in the > ACCOUNT > LISTings is still incorrect. > I may have misspoke in that....what I'm trying to accomplish is twofold: > 1) Balance the account (which your procedure did) > 2) Have the ACCOUNT BALANCE accurately reflect what is in the account > (i.e. > the bank statement).- this is the area where I am still off. > I've tried making an 'adjustment' (in past attempts) but this only serves > to > BALANCE the account, not correct/reflect the true balance in the > account. > Also - when I make an adjustment - the adjustments start showing up in > reports and get calculated into all sorts of cash-flow, spending, etc > projections....which totally distorts the picture.

Cal, Tried it and assuming I did it correctly it DID balance the account (per the BALANCE THIS ACCOUNT procedure)...BUT my balance that shows in the ACCOUNT LISTings is still incorrect. I may have misspoke in that....what I'm trying to accomplish is twofold: 1) Balance the account (which your procedure did) 2) Have the ACCOUNT BALANCE accurately reflect what is in the account (i.e. the bank statement).- this is the area where I am still off. I've tried making an 'adjustment' (in past attempts) but this only serves to BALANCE the account, not correct/reflect the true balance in the account. Also - when I make an adjustment - the adjustments start showing up in reports and get calculated into all sorts of cash-flow, spending, etc projections....which totally distorts the picture.. Any additional guidance would be welcomed. Select to show only unreconciled transactions. Sort by date, and go to the oldest transaction. Hold down Cntl+Shift+M and let auto-repeat work thru the transactions until none are left showing. Then balance making the starting and ending balance match the known balance. Choose the balance date to be the day after your last transaction. This is not the normal procedure. It starts you with an amnesty for former balancing. Thereafter, follow the normal procedure. When doing so, don't adjust the starting balance. How Money Calculates the Starting Balance. To reach that balance, Money starts with your opening balance and then adds all reconciled deposits and subtracts all reconciled payments. http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;EN-US;138960

I have a couple accounts that have little activity (e.g. Savings)...so I tend to not pay close attention to 'balancing' them on a monthly basis (since they don't change that much). This has lead to my now forgetting to balance them at all when activity does occur. Net-net - I'm WAY out of balance - due primarily to TRANSFERs between accounts (and how I didn't know how to reconcile these in the past - which created duplicate entries - I've since figured this out - I think). So now, I'm trying to get these accounts current, but my statements don't go back far enough (this account is almost 10 years old) to allow me to sort through the erroneous entries. I want to just start over, but the account is tied to my bank. I've tried CLOSING the account and creating a new one, but with the old one is apparently connected to my bank, and therefore won't create/update. Any tips on the best way to START OVER with an online account?
