Thank you, Glyn. That worked fine.

I think I will switch to US 2007. I do not track investments with Money and
my UK bank isn't available online in the UK version, while my US bank is
available in the US version.

The planner error can be fixed by resetting the planner through the
registry. There's a download at http://money.mvps.org/downloads/patches.aspx
which can help you here.

I have been intriqued with this thread. I am an American living in England
(23 years) with both UK and US bank accounts. I moved from Quicken UK to
Money UK when Intuit dropped UK support. I like to stay current and (like
others) am worried MSFT will drop the UK version. I downloaded the 2007 US
Trial version and installed it on a spare computer. Everything seems to work
well, except that I get the message "A file needed to run the Planner is
either missing or corrputed. To resolve the problem, reinstall Money and
then repoen your Money file." I don't use the planner but do use foreign
currencies and I first saw the message on the Program Settings/Update
Curencies page. The suggested fix does not work, which is not surprising. Is
there a simple work-around for this, or am I headed for an account by
account transition?

Thank you

It's not horrible, with time and planning. It results in significantly
improved performance.

I also agree that 2004 was the last good version of Money. All kinds of
things went wrong starting with 2005, starting with a significant fix BEFORE
the cd's hit the shelves, favoured by another fix of about 20-30 problems
within a few weeks.

Register Feedback went missing at M05. It was a huge performance hitter and
was the first feature people who camplained about performance were advised
to turn off. Apparently, rather than recraft the feature to not be such a
drain on performance, they deleted it instead. If it's a deal breaker, you
will not be able to move past M04.

Gone in M06. (Or was it M05?) Who knows why it got deleted? If it's a deal
breaker, you will not be able to move past M04. (Or was it M05?)

Thanks for the comments. As you can understand, I do not really want to
'recreate' a Money file in 2003 if I don't need too.

The two features that are missing, and I hope you can maybe point me in
right direction on how to get them back, are the following (note, you can
read 'Budget Alerts' in Account Register for more detail)

a) Spending Thermometers when *inside* an account register, along with a
prompt if I've spent *over* a designated budget category when entering
transactions manually.

b) Just found this one and it was *quite* annoying...when balancing my
checking or credit card, 2003 version used to have a little summary on the
left about the 'totals' of how much you've spent and how much you've
deposited. This was nice because if my numbers didn't match up (10% of the
time they don't match statement), I could quickly look to see if my
withdrawals or deposits were issue as both totals were displayed on the
paper statement. Now it isn't there and I'm forced to hand check every
transaction being on the paper statement - which needless to say stinks.

If I could get those two features working, then '06 works (albeit slower) as
well for my purposes at '03.

If Dick or Michael could respond or point me in right direction I'd be very
happy.

PS - What does YMMV stand for?

Using 07 and am pleased with it.

Default Re: Which version are you using?

I don't know of anything to recommend M03 as better than M04. My
"production" machine is still M04.

My issues with M05/6 are documented at http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm and
its corollary page http://umpmfaq.info/Money2006.htm. I did conduct a
year-long parallel trial of M06 and found it painfully slow and unstable. It
also had most of the annoying, but not debilitating, changes from M05. When
it wasn't crashing, it did get to the same answers as M04 was getting me to,
+/- some minor deltas in things like Tax Estimator. While I cannot recommend
M06, I would not say that it has any great risk compared to M04/3,
particularly if you are not having performance or stability issues as I did.

I am testing M07 now. After a major investment of effort nuking-the-bills
(see other M07 threads for details) I find it is much more stable than
M06--so far--and it performs better on significantly less hardware than M04.
It does not add any features relative to M04 that interest me--but that's
been true for quite a number of versions now--and still has the annoying
features from M05/6 that I do not care for. It also adds the Toy Budget (my
name, not theirs) but I can avoid this entirely if I choose.

The big issue in staying on the old version is the termination of online
services (quotes, et al.,) and, eventually, support and updates like tax
rates, etc. This, coupled with the improvements I'm seeing in M07 vs. M04/6
will likely convince me to buy M07 soon.

As always, YMMV.

Default MVPs - Which version are you using?

I've just recently upgraded versions from 2003 Deluxe to 2006 Deluxe...2003
seems to be the last year people 'liked' the Money product. After reading
more and more on this newsgroup, I'm getting nervous that I may have made a
mistake and debating about if/how fast I should back peddle and try to get
my accounts set up in new 2003 file again.

My questions are this:

a) Am I right in saying that the general consensus thinks 2003 was the last
'good' product (MVPs you can ignore this question if you want)
b) Will 2003 continue to work? Reason I upgraded was I got a dialog in 2003
saying it wasn't going to be 'supported' (I believe that was the term) and
don't know if that means you can't call MS on issue (which I never did) or
if it will not work and banks will nto support it. Any insights?
c) I'm probably the opposite of most people in here in that I am not a
Microsoft Basher but for the most part a big fan. THe little that I have
used 2006 Deluxe, I only have one issue so far (see 'Budget Alerts' in
Account Register post) but I may well not be a MS Money power user -
primarily just use it to download stuff into registers, see account totals,
and get 'budget alerts' (although that is what is missing for me right now).
I only recently tried the lifetime planner and I'm not sure I 'believe' it
(numbers don't seem 'right')...also I was a bit surprised I had to enter
monthly contributions manually to investment accounts even though I had
monthly transfers set up. The 'budget' doesn't seem any better or worse in
2006 than it was in 2003, but I might be missing something.

Bottom line...I'm paranoid that something 'bad' (and I don't even know what
that is) is going to happen and wondering if I should try to recreate a new
03 Money file (can't use backup as I've been running 06 for a few months and
backup is too out of date).

Any comments are appreciated.
