I was Are you entering transactions into Money manually, and then letting Money match the downloaded bank transactions to those manual entries? Or are you not entering anything by hand and just having Money enter them for you? If you are doing the former you shouldn't have this problem, as long as the "Replace downloaded payee names with user-altered names when available" is enabled in the Online Service Settings. Not sure if you can avoid this if you're doing the latter... as I always enter transactions by hand and use the bank downloads to match what I've already entered. -Rod |

My hope is that if you Move each of these Payees to a payee called> date and transaction number for each transaction so my payees look something > like this... > Wal-Mart Super 04/01 #000300660 > Wal-Mart Super 04/16 #002345324 > Wal-Mart Super 05/03 #005485733 "Wal-Mart Super", that subsequent downloads would match to the "Wal-Mart Super" if Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServiceSettings-> ShowStandardizedPayeeNames was set. I just checked my Money 2007 install and found that the Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServiceSettings-> ShowStandardizedPayeeNames setting had been cleared somehow. I suggest you check to make sure yours didn't get cleared/un-ticked. - quote - > Three different payees are created for these entries. How can I use Money

| Usually in that case, I rename the payee on one of the transactions, it asks me if I want to apply it to all and I answer yes. In this case, hopefully, you only need to do it three times, one for each unique Wal-Mart payee. | Cal, Thank you so much for responding. The problem is that my bank includes the date and transaction number for each transaction so my payees look something like this... Wal-Mart Super 04/01 #000300660 Wal-Mart Super 04/16 #002345324 Wal-Mart Super 05/03 #005485733 Three different payees are created for these entries. How can I use Money 2007 to standardize these so I can just rename them all as "Wal-Mart"? I was hoping that by selecting "Show standardized payee names for which a name match is not found," I could accomplish this and that the only thing that would come across is "Wal-Mart Super", and then the renaming would change it to "Wal-Mart", but as I've explained, it is not doing that. Any idea why Money 2007 is failing to strip the date and trans # off of the end of my payees even with this option selected? Thanks in Advance! Kurt ps. See how much easier it would have been to just set a renaming rule that says Wal-Mart* = rename to "Wal-Mart" : ) "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Kurt wrote: > > I can't believe that Money 2007 still does not include the ability to use > > wildcards for renaming payees! I would first use Banking-> AccountTools-> Categories&Payees-> Payees ; select a payee with those numbers and special characters and use Move to combine payees into a payee with the right name but without the numbers and special characters. Then lets hope the matching is as it should be. Let us know how that works. |

| I can't believe that Money 2007 still does not include the ability to use wildcards for renaming payees! Anyway, I'm trying to do things the Microsoft way and they are not working. I selected "Show standardized payee names for which a name match is not found," but all of the payee names in my register are still showing up with numbers and special characters. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? Thx! Kurt |
