OK. File-> Restore the backup file, but NOT to the default filename. Browse to your MyDocuments folder and specify a DIFFERENT filename such as lauren05.mny. If that is not sufficient, this could offer some other ideas. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310858/en-us - quote - > Cal Learner-- MVP wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, lauren.mcdulls[at]gmail.com wrote: > > > > - Let money 2005 update itself > > > > > Did that already. > > > So what is the version number? > > > > > > > Cal Learner-- MVP wrote: > > > > In microsoft.public.money, lauren.mcdulls[at]gmail.com wrote: > > > > > > > > I'm trying to restore a money file for a friend. | And you are 100% sure that the backup was made by Money 2004, not Money 2006? You could try installing M07 trial temporarily (or on another machine) and see if it restores and upgrades the file. Assuming it does, the file it leaves behind will be renamed. The file extension of that file would be an important data point. <lauren.mcdulls[at]gmail.com> wrote in message news:1153544858.948618.309960[at]s13g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... - quote - > 14.0.125.1105 |

Close Money. Then open Money and check that Help-> About... says you then have version 14.0.*.1105. Then you should be able to open or restore your existing files. |

| I'm trying to restore a money file for a friend. I've searched google and google groups for a few hours and I'm out of ideas. I need help something fierce. I only, ONLY have the backup file. I do not have the org. money file. So far I've: - Tried to do a basic restore on the backup. I get this error: "Money cannot locate 'xxx.mbf' or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk drive is write protected" - Made sure the file wasn't read only and that it wasn't on read only media - Let money 2005 update itself - Tried running the repair tool. All get is the "invalid database" error. I've tried both level one and level two repairs. - I've run officerecovery for money. I get a "could not read damaged file" error. I am pretty sure the file might be corrupt, but I was hoping to at least salvage some data from it. The org. money file was overwritten while the user was trying to restore backups. They restored a backup - from over a year ago. I have a backup from a week ago, but obviously it's not working. Do I NEED money 2004 for this to work? |
