| You'd like to think it was that easy. But I can tell you don't get out much with "average" PC users. Hundreds of users showed up here in the last year who never tumbled to doing this. Perhaps they think that thing is a cup holder? "jeffcarp" <jkcarp[at]gmail.com> wrote in message news:1154188584.114852.305870[at]m79g2000cwm.googlegroups.com... - quote - > Come on now. | Come on now. Every $299 computer sold today has a CD burner. Download it. Burn a copy and store it in your drawer. Problem solved. At retail they are dealing with a percentage of impulse buyers and want to give them incentives to act on the spot. POP stuff. ( point of purchase marketing jargon ). | You can buy the cd if you want. I like cd's. You can pay for redownloads if you want. You get two years to do so. I had trouble getting 2003, 2006, and 2007 to work. But I never had trouble redownloading the software onto the computer. (Save your e-mail) And as far as rebates go they should be in your email that you receive from whomever you bought the software from. All I can say is that I like MS Money. I hate loading new software. But it is easier than writing your own or using access or excel. | I ended up buying Money twice last time I downloaded it, but I tried it again anyhow. Really there was no reason to get Money 07 if one has 06, but I did it anyhow. With the rebate, it was about what it would cost me to order plus shipping. Of course, the other way gives one a CD. I bought the 5.95 extended download this time, and I burned the file that I downloaded onto a CD. However, since the file checks for a key before installing (probably online), I am unsure it will work after a certain period anyway. Thus the download insurance. The download was pretty fast on DSL (10 minutes or less). WindowsOneCare Firewall stopped it from accessing the Internet, and after I selected the "allow" function, I found the install had terminated so I had to restart the install and it happened again. So I had to disable the firewall first. Then it installed just fine. I get a $20 rebate so I printed out the rebate form. On the form, it said I could fill it out online, so I went to the website where it told me I could not do an online rebate form for a downloaded product. So if I read it correctly, that means you can do the rebate online if you buy the product in a store, but if you buy the product online, you must snail mail the rebate form! Of course, I did. It required a printout of my online order (the email I got) to be enclosed, so I printed it out. I have never had trouble with MS rebates, and don't expect trouble this time. Just funny how they do that. | It's easy to back up the 30 meg file to a CD, works for me -- you can also pay a few buck extra for 'download protection'... or buy the CD. This year the purchase is through Digital River, not using your Passport account like last year... | Since they are pestering me with Pop Up ads when I start Mny06 I definitely will NOT buy the 07 ... not that I ever intended to anyway. And I definitely will look at the alternatives in 08. I might tolerate a one time only pop up but this is happening every day. So, to sort of get even ... Latest biz news I read today is MSFT is to buy back $20billion worth of stock in an auction. Guess mgmt is also suffering with the stock drop? The micro soft brains lost the previous $30 billion they blew on stock buybacks and are adding another $20 billion, on top of this near term 20B, for the next 5 year wave of buying. Naturally I own zero shares. As to the softies attack on the APPL iPod biz, perhaps there will be a nasty consumer backlash this time? What's the matter soft brains, afraid of attacking GOOG now? arthur == On 21 Jul 2006 13:36:57 -0700, "Steve" <sjcohen730[at]aol.com> wrote: - quote - > This is sorta an alert to those newbees and others who have been > reading the threads about Microsoft Money 2007. | This is sorta an alert to those newbees and others who have been reading the threads about Microsoft Money 2007. If the reviews remain positive I'm sure many here will be buying Money 2007. I would STRONGLY suggest you wait a few days and buy the product at your local store. The reason for this is if you have a "hard" copy of the program you can easy reinstall it later if you have problems. If you download directly to your computer after paying, you will have no "hard" copy of the program. Last year, many people came here after the fact saying the program didn't work. It was a hassle for them to get it fixed and Microsoft already had their money. I got the download offer this morning and, just as I have done in previous years, I'll read the reviews here, then head down to my local COSTCO or other electronics store offering the best price and get my new copy. It is usually cheaper and is definately the best way to go IMHO. Steve |
