| Cal, I hate to say this, but you're spouting Micro$oft BS at this point. I have the SAME EXACT PROBLEM - which ONLY started after Microsoft changed the MSN Money website. I've been working with two different Microsoft reps on this, and do you know what their latest answer is? "If the transactions are not downloading, then it must be your firewall or antivirus causing a problem. Try disabling your firwewall or antivirus, or booting into Safe Mode..." Which is absolutel, utter BS. As I told them both, let's review3 simple facts: 1. Money 2006 downloaded transactions normally. 2. Microsoft made changes to the MSN Money website, at which point updates (and downloading of transactions) began FAILING immediately. 3. Microsoft acknowledged the problem, said they were working on the issue and "making enhancements", and now the update SAYS it completes, yet Money 2006 STILL DOES NOT DOWNLOAD ANY TRANSACTIONS. This is happening to a known-good account - Providian Visa - that previously downloaded transactions just fine, as well as to a new account (Washington Mutual) that should work just fine, but doesn't. So you tell me: is it my PC (firewall, antivirus, etc.), or Microsoft? Any id10t with half a brain cell left can see it's not the PC. Yes, I've tried creating a new account. yes, I've even gone to a different PC, on a completely different network (DSL line at my office) and tried doing a fresh install of Money and then getting the acoutn to update. STILL DOESN'T WORK. So tell me, and this time think before you answer, do you really want to say that it's not Microsoft's issue? I for one never had any problems at all until the MSN "improvements". - quote - > > > At this point, for those Money users who rely on MSN sync, Money06 is not

SMS Money cajoles the user from the get go into using "Online Services" for automactically downloading statements from multiple financial institutions, using MSN Bill Pay, etc, "All from one location". Once that's been done, you also get the ability to view their Money data from multiple pc's and locations - via MSN sync. If you later choose not to use the "see your money everywhere" ability, you will lose the online services to a few accounts AND the MSN Money Sync error starts appearing in Update Summary Messages. I began using MSN Money Plus as part of the MSN Premium package back in 2003 then bought Money 2005, and now 2006. Since the improvements went online I have had the same problems with MSN Sync. More often than not I'm unable to successfully download statements from CapitalOne or Direct Federal Credit Union. Not only have they no mutual financial connections, and that there's nothing wrong with their OFX formats, I encounter the same problem if I login directly to MSN Money and try to sync up that way. I just get the "updating your info" message, and an incessant clicking as the MSN runs and reruns some script in the background. I left it doing this all last weekend and it's still at it now. Btw, MSN did a similar update a couple of years ago that caused this very same problem. Given the way I was bounced around and around from MSN Money Plus support to MS Money support to MSN Support I swore off ever using it again. Which is why I got Money in the first place. Suprising to learn that MSN is still running on the backend. - quote - > > > Cal Learner-- MVP <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote: > > > In microsoft.public.money, Ben wrote: > > > > > > Wish I could tell you otherwise, but you're pretty much on your own with > > > > this > > > > product. Perhaps he his bank is Royal Bank of Canada, and might be looking into to web downloads. What he would do to get information or help would differ from somebody banking at the Atlantic Employees Credit Union, which would in turn differ from somebody who wanted to download Atlantic National Bank. Expect much better downloads from a financial institution that provides direct OFX downloads vs from a financial institution that does not, and the interface comes in via a third party. - quote - > Cal Learner-- MVP <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, Ben wrote: > > > > Wish I could tell you otherwise, but you're pretty much on your own with this > > > product. | He's right, sort of. It wasn't characteristic until a month or so ago -- the MSN web service went offline for a 'short time' that turned out to be over a week while 'improvements' were put in place. Since the 'upgrade', use of sync between Money06 and MSN Money has been very inconsistent, and unfortunately, characteristic of my experience. A quick scan over the past couple of months of messages posted here will give you a good indication of what to expect. Search using 'sync issues' or 'down again?' as a search term and set aside some time to wade through the results. At this point, for those Money users who rely on MSN sync, Money06 is not a reliable indicator of what your account balances actually are. I'm hoping it'll get better with the soon-to-be-released Money07, as I like the product's user-interface, and the concept of how it's > supposed< to work... | Wish I could tell you otherwise, but you're pretty much on your own with this product. Even if you do get one of the time-consuming solutions explained here, or by a support person, to work -- it'll only be temporary. Within a day or 2 it'll all stop working again. Unfortunately, it's just part of using Microsoft Money 2006. Is there a money support email or phone number? Does anyone have any suggestions. I should note that other accounts from my brokerage company are downloading correctly, its just my bank accounts that are not updating correctly. Thanks, Sam |
