| My thoughts (others might have better ones): I think your only direct hope is to find out from the OEM how to do what the technician did except to restore only Money. If the OEM doesn't provide an application restore CD or similar, this will be very hard. I'm thinking your restore missed something/mangled something, but there is really no way to tell what that I know of nor simple way to get around short of reinstalling the application. (Some restores fail because they won't restore over files that are in use so part of an application gets newer files, say, from the restore and parts don't. Since there are lots of shared files, many things Money needs may be in use without starting Money.) If you know somebody who has an M05 installation CD, that'd also work. IF you had a way to install Money from anything besides the trial version, then uninstall/reinstall should not require you to pay anything. Your alternate hope is to: a) do a much more selective backup of your data alone b) re-do the system restore c) restore the backed-up data d) put everything on that isn't in one of the two above categories. I understand why you might find this a bad choice. But if your OEM doesn't support individual application restores, you are in a corner. Remember: the applications you get FREE with the machine may be worth just about that much compared to the real things. Beware that once you get a clean M05 installed you will likely have to do an Internet Update to get the M05 service fixes before your (presumably up-level) restored data file will make happy with it. (See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=177.) I thought this might be your issue until you reported on the sample file diagnostic test. | Money came preinstalled on my laptop. I created a backup of my entire laptop a few weeks ago because I was getting the screen repaired. In the process the repair tech wiped the hard drive and restored to factory settings. At this point Money was on the laptop (it came that way from the factory), and it worked just fine. Later I restored my hard drive from the backup CDs that I created, and money stopped working. When I try to open Money, I get the two error messages mentioned in the first post. "Unable to initialize a required Money component. Please reinstall Money from your original product disks." and then "Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCoreFiles\checksku.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search or a file, click the Start button, and then Search." Same thing happens when I try to open the Sample Data File. I don't want to uninstall and reinstall Money because I don't want to have to pay for it, since it came free with my laptop. I'm trying to figure out how to fix it. | I can create the temp file. However, I had to change the clock back to 2005, so when I uninstalled/reinstalled Money 2005 and tried to login with my passport, it failed--because I forgot to change the clock back! I found the answer here: http://www.support.microsoft.com/kb/891338/ Microsoft was able to login and verify my dowload purchase and it is running fine now.. Thanks, Todd "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Todd wrote: > > Sorry Cal I posted this under the wrong thread so I'm reposting here for > > others as well.. > > > I'm trying to reinstall(system crash with previously purchased version) > > Money 2005 from the Internet download and followed all of the instructions, > > but when I try to login with my passport ID to verify my purchase (which is > > set to active and enabled on the MS billing page) I get an error that says > > "Your sign-in information could not > > be verified. | Please clarify how you reinstalled Money. Do you have System Restore CDs that came with the laptop? Application Restore CDs? Can you open the Money sample data file (typically something like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\sample.mny) by double clicking on it from Windows Explorer? I think (hope?) your question is a lot more about how to get the application back correctly installed from whatever means you were using to do so than about Money. | Sorry Cal I posted this under the wrong thread so I'm reposting here for others as well.. I'm trying to reinstall(system crash with previously purchased version) Money 2005 from the Internet download and followed all of the instructions, but when I try to login with my passport ID to verify my purchase (which is set to active and enabled on the MS billing page) I get an error that says "Your sign-in information could not be verified. Go online, and then reenter your sign-in information" I've logged in online and still receive the error. I've checked my firewall and it is allowing all traffic through. I've uninstalled money and reinstalled but still getting the same error. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I don't have the CD. The full version of Money (i.e. not the trial version)came preinstalled on my laptop at the time of purchase. - quote - Is there any charge for aquiring and installing Money 2005 from this site? I don't want to have to purchase what I already have. Thanks for your help. |

I assume that you are saying that you restored from some sort of> When I did Money 2005 stopped working. drive image. I suggest you reinstall Money 2005. If you have the CD, use that. Then open the sample.mny file, and make sure that the version is not the trial version, and that you have version 14.0.*.1105. Then File-> Open your Money file. | I recently restored my hard drive from a backup that I made a few weeks ago. When I did Money 2005 stopped working. When I attempt to start money, I get 2 error messages and then Money closes. The first says, "Unable to initialize a required Money component. Please reinstall Money from your original product disks." When I click OK, I get a 2nd error message that says, "Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCoreFiles\checksku.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search or a file, click the Start button, and then Search." Money 2005 came preinstalled on my laptop, so I cannot reinstall from my product disk. I found this support article on the error, but it only addresses Money 2002, 2003, & 2004. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;313374 I've tried Methods 1, 2, and 4, but it didn't resolve the problem no luck. Can anyone help??? |
