| Versions of Money prior to M98 had MUCH smaller files than M98 and beyond. My recollections--which is fading fast--is that there weren't as many logical integrity (corruption) "issues" way back then, either. One issue back then was that there were more limitations on things like number of accounts/categories/payees. You say archiving was once recommended in this newsgroup. Someone, sometime, might have done a goofy thing like that. Many of us who have been here for a long time have never done it and have **always** recommended against it. Money can deal with much larger files than any of us can stand watching it try to deal with. So since about 95, have been opening new file each year, no archiving (which was once recommended here on this forum!) So you are saying Money can now deal w/larger files? And no, I am self-employed, not a business (not in the sense often used anyway), so I only have ONE checking acct. Divide categories into work/non-work. Had hoped that by getting Home&Office it would simplify reports, comparisons, CATAGORIES, etc. |

| But all the reports in Money can be customized to look at a specific year. If you wanted to look at 5 year trends you have a BIG problem. Most of us here have files going way back. I have the one file covering all years since '95 and some posters go back further. Provided you keep separate bank accounts for personal use and business use there is no problem separating the two. But it does require discipline. It is so easy to use a personal credit card for a Business purchase! ;-) BTW another general view is not to archive - has same adverse effect on trend reporting. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | Yes, have been through help files. Still can't get any simple info on home, business in any usable fashion (is there a trick?). Only have ONE checking acct active... Do I have to go through 'categories list and label each item 'home' or 'work'? And do I have to do that every year when I start a new Money File??? Seems so work intensive! |
