To set up a file without a Passport, select Decline.

No. You are forced into the MSN sync LONG before you ever type in
your card number.

Try it. Create a new Money file or use your existing one if you
aren't syncing. Just try adding a Home Depot credit card. I think
it is impossible to get through the wizard without the Money file
being sync'd with MSN's servers. You'll see this before it ever
asks for the HD card# and password.

And NEXT accepts the statement about requiring a passport to sync your Home
Depot account. At some point you had to type it in, right?

I don't know whether it Yodlee or CashEdge. Same kind of thing tho.
Microsoft tries to encourage financial institutions to provide OFX
servers for direct access. They provide assistance and certification
for FIs without charging for it.
http://www.microsoft.com/money/fi.mspx
But many FIs don't do it. So the screen-scraping done by Yodlee or
CashEdge provides a way to let Money provide automated access to
more FIs.

Will do. Thanks. I really despise this Passport/MSN integration.

Is this one of those "Yodlee" things or is that something totally
different?

There are many nice credit cards that do not need Passport, and can
directly do direct OFX access to the credit card company server from
Money. Unfortunately that is not one of them at this time.

You might check to see if they have web download of transactions.

I know how to remove it. I've done it two times today trying to
get this set up.

THe problem is, in syncing with the MS servers, it corrupts my
data. Numerous "Memo Field" entries get moved to the payee line
and two transactions consistently get the signs changed which, of
course, throws my balances off. If it was a matter of tricking
Money into syncing, deleting the data then adding the HD card, I
would, but it involves this corruption. So, I'm back to this
mornings backup file before this whole venture started.

Regardless of what some have said, I am unable to see how to set
up this card with Passport without it involving an MSN Money
sync. Try it yourself. Create a new Money file and try adding
online sync for a Home Depot credit card. You don't need any
account info. You'll see the forced sync, and hopefully an option
I keep missing, long before you need an account number and
password.

There was only NEXT and CANCEL, the latter of which aborts
everything.

Doesn't matter. If it were 50 transactions a day, I wouldn't use
Passport and online sync to enable it. THanks though. SIgh...

The message on the dialog for next informed you of the 'advantages',
including storing your data on MSN. When you clicked Next, you agreed.

I'll guess that Home Depot permits downloading either QIF or OFX files from
their web site. If true, you can enter your data by manual download.
Otherwise it's passport or typing them in by hand.

Just how active is your use of your Home Depot card?

Well, when I walked through the Home Depot card setup, it 1)
Mandated passport then 2) proceeded to automatically upload all
of my info to MSN Money. There was no box to check/uncheck to
prevent this behavior. I didn't choose anything except "Next" in
the Home Depot credit card setup wizard.

So, what does it mean, and to ask my original question again, is
there any way to get online data for the Home Depot card without
using passport at all?

Sorry but using passport doesn't mean publishing your data on MSN money.
That only happens if you choose on-line synchronisation so that you can
access your data away from your home PC.

Default Home Depot card - setting up for online updates?

I have Money 2006 Premium. I have no desire to set up passport
sync. All of my other credit cards and banks work with online
setup by just using the bank information. The Home Depot card
though seems to insist on Passport setup which means publishing
my data on MSN Money on the web and doing that asinine and broken
sync.

Is there any other way? If not, I guess I'll just keep manually
keying the data in.
