I would think it would be the one that was in effect when you saved your file. Maybe that is not the case. Try them both. You should be able to open your file while offline. I would think that the password in effect when the file was closed would be the right one, at least in that case. Another thing that can give an indication of a password error would be to open a Money file from a version newer than Money 2003 with Money 2003. You could test for that by installing the Money 2006 trial on a computer, and see if it can open your Money file and convert it. During the process of conversion, Money saves a backup of the existing file. The extension of that backup would be .m11 if the file converted was from Money 2003. |

| Over the past few months in trying to gain entry to Microsoft Money 2003 on my computer I changed my .Net Passport password several times in order to achieve entry to MS Money but these changes never resulted in being able to gain entry to MS Money 2003. The thing is, after I change or update my username and/or password with MS ..Net Passport should I not be able to gain entry to MS Money 2003 on my computer? The reason I brought this problem to this forum is because I've had extensive contact with MS .Net Passport Support. It is these guys who referred me to find a solution by contacting MS Money resources. Frank C. | Frank, sorry brain was not engaged. Download timeout shouldn't prevent you getting into your Money program. As Cal says you should be able to get into the desktop program. It is just downloads once you have signed in that might be disabled. | Bob, I need you to spell it out for me. If there is no resourses, no hope, then say it. When I put in the password I think is correct Microsoft Money says the User Name does not match the password I entered. So is the user name so hard to define or clarify on my computer? If I use a Password Program the issue may not be the password but the user name. It would seem Microsoft Money or Microsoft Passport could figure out a reasonable, workable solution. Frank C. | Bob, if I buy Microsoft Money 2004 and upgrade my program, before final installation will Money ask me if I want to password protect my data on the computer and allow me to enter a password that will be usable to acces the history inputed previously? | I am using Money 2003 on my machine not part of a banking account. So the program is on my machine not residing at the bank. I only use Microsoft Money 2003 to be able to keep a running account from my bank (Comerica online banking)longer than 6 months. So I import the account information to my computer. If for some reason somehow my password became corrupt even buying a vague password solving program will not solve the problem would it? I would just be fishing here. The site you indicate talks about the great risk in Microsoft taking on the problem to assist in accessing the program. How can this be such a problem? It is my computer, I am the administrator to my computer and almost the only user, certainly the only user to the Money program and having my own User password protected user at that, and yet there is nothing that can be done. Especially if the User Name is supposed to be my email address where is the risk? Anyway, can you recommend any good password finding programs? Thanks for your help, Frank C. | I cannot access my MS Money program on my computer. The opening Money Screen indicates to try another password or say my user name is not the same as the password I have entered. Previously I would routinely enter MS Money but now the password I thought was correct is not. A note on this screen says my password is the same as my .Net Passport password but I never used .Net Passport even though I had registered for it long time ago. I did go to the .Net Passport site and changed my password but still could not open MS Money afterward. I had been away for four months and had been using a Hotmail email account to keep up with friends and relatives but stopped using that email when I returned home. I was wondering if this situation somehow messed up my MS Money password access. Anyway I want to download my bank information into MS Money but I cannot. Somehow there is a conflict with MS Money, .Net Passport, Hotmail accounts that I cannot resolve. Frank C. |
