Abbreviations can give you some added flexibility. Make the> tradeoff. abbreviation "M" for "MegaCorp {his}", then that should be promoted to the start of the list when you type "M". Abbreviation. That can give you a nickname for the payee without having to change the first part of the actual payee. M1 and M2 could be abbreviations, for example. |

| Clearly sorting neatly or make autocomplete quick to disambiguate is a tradeoff. | I was thinking of two items that start out the same, but are not adjacent to each other. Federal Tax (expense)/Federal Tax Refund (income); Travel/Transfer, and of course the infamous Loan Payment/Loan Payment:My Mortgage. I am also inordinately annoyed by having to continue typing after an autocomplete has popped up. especially when there is more than one word. For me it's the kind of thing that gets me cussing at the screen. Which is probably why I immediately noticed that it would happen with your example. The OP probably couldn't care less. | I'm assuming the payee names downloaded are indistinguishable for his vs. hers. My only reason to suggest making them different was to make it easier in reporting, et al., to tell one from the other. For this reason, I'd post-pend rather than pre-pend the unique characters so they'd still sort close or next to one another. Granted you may have to type a few more characters correcting the downloaded name to the scheduled name to encourage the match. OTOH, in an auto complete, there are other ways to select the next alternative offered. In an autocomplete with a pulldown (most payee fields, but I can't speak for the download acceptance part) typing "meg" for "MegaCorp {his}" might auto-complete to "MegaCorp {hers}" but you can follow the "meg" with Alt+[downarrow] to get to "MegaCorp {his}" and then tab or return to get to the next field. | If you go "Her MegaCorp check" and "His Megacorp check" (or Susan's TinyCorp & Steve's TinyCorp, or whatever) the autocomplete will happen after the second character rather than the 16th. Might be easier. Just to supplement, using downloaded data you may get a more-or-less meaningless string in the Payee field. As soon as you change the Payee Name to the same as the Scheduled Deposit/Bill, it should recognize the transaction as a paycheck and populate the deductions etc. Susan "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:eYAuULpjGHA.3780[at]TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... - quote - > When you say "the accounts are listed under the same payee name" I'm > assuming you just mean the net deposit of both paychecks is being > downloaded under the same payee name. | When you say "the accounts are listed under the same payee name" I'm assuming you just mean the net deposit of both paychecks is being downloaded under the same payee name. In this context I have no idea what "account" means. Here's what I'd attempt: schedule both different paychecks. Use different payee names like "MegaCorp {his}" and "MegaCorp {hers}" just to visibly distinguish what's going on. Try to get Money to match by amount, not some mapping of the downloaded Payee name--clearly that will be problematic. Here I'm assuming your nets are significantly different. If your issue is "twice a month on an erratic payment schedule," that will be hard. Schedule them for twice a month and try to coerce it to match the next one. Money can't even schedule every third year. I don't know how they'd deal with erratic. "chummer407" <chummer407[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:ECC1680D-E6F5-4C1A-8B93-9274C797CAC5[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > My husband and I both work at the same employer and receive a paycheck > twice > a month on an erratic payment schedule. | My husband and I both work at the same employer and receive a paycheck twice a month on an erratic payment schedule. They are both directly deposited in our bank accounts. We both have different deductions we would like to track in those paychecks. However, the accounts are listed under the same payee name and Money isn't recognizing them as two separate paychecks. Do we have to enter the deductions from each paycheck manually each time or is there a way around this? |
