| Find and Replace allows simple changes of income or expense categories to other income or expense categories. The others, pretty much all of which are some form of split or transfer, do not fit that model. It's sad that find/replace is limited, but there it is. In fairness, designing a Find/Replace that supported, say, changing a series of simple Wages & Salary:Net wages to complete Paychecks with all of the splits would be very challenging to design in any generalized way. OTOH, why it can't support changing portions of memos or replacing classification is a mystery to me. | Thanks for the reply Bill. Just a little confused myself now; I went back and looked at categories (Accounts&Bills > Categories&Payees) and only Income and Expenses are listed. But in the register (or ledger) for an account, if I click on an entry and drop down the category list, 'special' categories are included: transfer, pay check, loan payment, etc. Now, I've put in some categories of my own, but I haven't touched these, so they must have been in there from the start. Of course, when I try an advanced find and replace, only income and expenses are available as choices to assign transactions. What I'm trying to do is this: from a checking account, I have many recurring transactions that would fall under these 'special' categories that haven't been assigned any. So I would like to do them all at once, using advanced find and replace. So far that hasn't worked, and I'm doing them individually. Just trying to avoid some tedium. | Not sure what you are trying to do. Find and replace only permits category changes. Transfers are not categories, thus they are not on the list. I don't use loan payments but that sounds like a transfer. Don't know what you mean by paycheck. Don't you categorize each component of a paycheck? If so they will show up on the search list. You can find transfers using advanced find (use the account tab and type transfer in the text tab) and you can edit them individually which works fine as long as you don't have hundreds of them. I don't see a way to convert a transfer to something else in a wholesale fashion but I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that. Maybe if I understood what you are trying to do a workaround would come to mind. -- Regards, Bill Wood Fountain Hills, AZ "John S." <nomail[at]invalid.invalid> wrote in message news:r3_ig.1516$h46.1184[at]trnddc07... - quote - > Using advanced find and replace, Money doesn't offer 'Special' categories > (transfer, loan payment, paycheck, etc) as an option when reclassing > categories on multiple transactions. | Using advanced find and replace, Money doesn't offer 'Special' categories (transfer, loan payment, paycheck, etc) as an option when reclassing categories on multiple transactions. The only category options available are income and expense. Is this normal behavior? Is there a work around to quickly reclassify many transactions? Thanks |
