Consider
Banking-> AccountTools-> Categories&Payees-> Payees-> GoToPayeeRulesManager
Your downloaded transactions may come with some generic term where
the Payee should be. Excluded Payee Names identifies words and
phrases that should be ignored from the payee field (e.g., check,
deposit, purchase). Add words that are generically added by your
bank.


Set Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServices-> ShowStandardizedPayeeNames to
combine payees that differ only by a number at the end. This may
work better after you have combined payees from previous downloads.

However if that is all Money has, it will leave you with nothing to
distinguish transactions. I suggest you set
Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServices-> AddADescriptionToTheMemoField
to aid you in selecting a Payee.

Thanks to you both. That's what I initially thought it would do, but then it
seems to only be auto assigning for two or three payees. There are some that
I've entered 15 times and it still won't automatically assign them.
Hmmmm.... I'll check out the bills section and see if I can't get that to
work. Thanks again!

It should do this automatically once you enter it manually a time or two. If
it's a reoccuring bill, set it up in the Bills sections where you can
explicitly tell it the categories for that transaction.

Start assigning it yourself, and Money should catch on.

In MS Money 2006, is there a way to assign a category to reoccurring payees
so I don't have to keep manually assigning them? For instance, if there is a
chare from a particular store, is there a way to automatically assign the
Grocery category to it?
