| Hi Cal, There is an article on Dell that talks about a Repair Reinstall, which has a slightly different procedure than the other process they told me to try. It is Dell Doc FA1056993 and is located at: (http://support.dell.com/support/topi...8CF&l=en&s=bsd) From the text I cannot tell if this would solve the "corrupted" security issues with my IE installation. Are you familiar with this? Do you think it would solve those problems and allow me to install MS Money 2006 without messing up all the other programs already installed on my computer? Thanks, Jon "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Jon Horvath wrote: > > > Dell is sending me a new Win XP disk, not the reinstall so we'll see if > > that allows me to fix the problem. > One more thing: when you reinstall, I suggest being behind a NAT > router (the common home kind) until you get your Windows updates. |

| I'm trying the first method he mentions at theeldergeek.com I tried the second previously but that didn't work; in fact the registry entry he mentions I change is still set to 0 (as opposed to 1) and I obviously IE is still on my computer and running since I'm typing this. I tried using the MS download for IE 6 to reinstall just after rebooting after making the registry change (my system did say that IE had been removed) however the install program still said it found a newer version on my system and could not continue.... its very odd. | Hi Cal, Dell is sending me a new Win XP disk, not the reinstall so we'll see if that allows me to fix the problem. I have tried this but it doesn't work. I get a message that says "a new> "If you have to reinstall Internet Explorer, follow these steps:" version of IE is already on the computer setup cannot continue" or something along those lines. - quote - The only thing here for SP2 is how to reinstall WinXP SP2...I tried following that but it just took me to the Update site which told me everything was up to date. Incidentally I did follow the steps to edit the registry and install IE 6 (the XP and SP1 instructions) but that did not work, I got a message saying the IE had been removed from the computer however the Icon on the Start menu was still there, when I tried to install IE6 I got the "a new version" message.... - quote - this didn't help either. - quote - > What version of IE are you running? | I have Win XP Home Edition SP2 I uninstalled MS Money 2003 SBE and loaded the trial for Money 2006 Deluxe. After purchasing the Deluxe version I uninstalled the trial version. I am not able to install 2006 Deluxe from the CD. I get a message that says all the required components could not be installed, try the installation again. Nothing works. I spoke with MS support and they said I need to do one of the following: 1) uninstall and reinstall IE 6 - which I cannot figure out how to do with Win XP Home Edition SP2 (there are articles for SP1...) 2) get secedit.exe and secedit.chm from Win XP Pro and run the executable to restore the security settings in IE. I can't find a way to get those files though - Dell won't give them to me even though I have their next day on site support (that is only for HW I guess and this is a SW issue....) Anyone else have this problem and/or any advice? Thanks, Jon |
