Yes I had run it a few hours earlier. I did a manual update then (that
is what I usually do). I was surprised to find the extra transaction
downloaded when I ran money again. I had given up on that feature as
it never seem to work before (thus the manual updates). When you read
the help file etc. on this feature doesn't it say somewhere that it
works without money running - or maybe that just something I saw in
the hype or advertisements for money when this version can out. If I'm
wrong about this please accept my apology.

Thanks for the clarification. I did ask on a subsequent reply whether or
not Money already had been running. Had the answer been yes, I would have
suggested the same conclusion.

The statement that the program must be running to download transactions
is not entirely accurate. It must be running the first time after you boot.

Starting from when you boot a computer, until when you start Money, no
transactions will download. But, when you initially start Money, two or
three other processes are spawned off that do the background banking.
When you close Money, these other processes stay active and continue
running, and continue to do the transaction downloads. (more details in
the FAQ at http://www.umpmfaq.info/faq.html#Q87, or search for spawn or
LRD).

When you reopen Money, any transactions downloaded since you last opened
it appear as new downloaded transactions. So after you start Money the
first time (after booting-up your computer), transactions will continue
to download even when you exit Money. It takes a while to get used to this.

And how do you know that it was downloaded? Had you been running Money
during the same Windows session, and shut it down?

Are you sure that is true. The other day I had some transaction that
were downloaded while I didn't have money running.

No. Background banking refers to downloading transactions while doing other
things in the program. The program must be running to download the
transactions.

Default Newbie question concerning background banking.

I recently installed Money Deluxe 2006.

It seems as though to automatically get updates to my credit card account, I
have to have money itself running. I have background banking installed, and
am setup to correctly, with the website, to automatically log in once a day,
to get transactions.

However, if the money program is not active, the automatic downloading of
transactions does not occur.

Is there a way to configure this software, so that I don't have to be signed
in to my money file, but still have the 'background banking' function run,
and download the desired transactions???

Thanks in advance,

Ed
