Well, I know people from the Money team do, more or less occasionally, read
the group. Every once and a while they pop in.

They also do market research to see what consumers want. The problem, from
our point of view, is which consumers they research and it *isn't* the
already committed power users. No point in asking them. They're going to buy
it regardless. They're already hooked. The research is all about widening
the net to catch more fish, not about making the fish already in the net
happier.

Apparently marketing folks are running both outfits and noone has ever
done any market research to see what consumers want. Long ago I thought
that surely SOMEONE in the company must read this stuff. Alas, they
merely provide the means to GET the feedback ( this server), but they
opt not to read it. Have you noticed Bill Gates has sold 5 miliion
shares of stock in the past few months? You would think that Gates and
Ballmer would care when the stock goes from 30 to 28 to 26 to 24 ... and
would listen - that's their job as officers. They must believe in the "
too big to fail " theory: they ought to have lunch with GM mgmt.

I feel your pain.... I also went through the same process and ended up
testing sbpFinance. I loved the product. The only problem I had with it was
that I never could get the Today screen plugins to show any data. The main
reason that I haven't purchased it was the price... I hate to have to spend
more for it than I paid for the actual Money product. Since, most sources
are saying that Money 2007 is to be released this summer I've decided to sit
on the purchase but if Money 2007 can't produce a worthwhile product, then
I'm definitely going to make the sbpFinance purchase.

JAH
I just downloaded Spb Finance from
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/finance/?en. So far, I've been able
to sync my MS Money file, but that's all I've done. The application appears
to be a little larger in size than I would hope, but that's because its
packed with features and really designed to allow you to do almost everything
you can do with a desktop application right from the PPC.

I'll try to post back once I've had more time to use it.

That's very curious, Patty. I have read some posts from people that said
they have it working, either through trial-and-error or right from the first
install. Most of these have been Dell Axim users.

As I understand it, the sync problem is a result of Pocket Access not being
a supported product on WM5. Pocket Money will run on my WM5 device, but the
synchronization appears to have been dependant on Pocket Access. When I
attemp to sync, Active Sync just shows "Looking for Changes" and will sit
there forever. The same experience I've discovered in numerous postings by
other WM5 users.

Would love to know your secret?

Thank you for the additional information Dick. I've decided to trial a third
party PPC app that interfaces with MS Money and works with WM5 before I jump
ship and head back to Intuit, but I will keep this information close by. Its
not really about the $ but more in regards to my frustration with poor
decision making as Msft chose to leave all of us loyal WM5 & MS Money users
out in the cold.

Default Dear MS Money 2006 Product Team...

You might have made a slight error in judgment.

I had been a long time Quicken user up until I purchased my first Pocket PC
in 2001 which included a free pocket version of Microsoft Money. Intuit
couldn't sync to the PPC so I made the big switch to Money.

Last November, I bought a Windows Mobile 5 device. My entire life is
managed by this wonderful piece of technology. Unfortunately, Money 2001
won't sync with the updated versions of Microsoft Money for the PPC so I ran
out and purchased Money Deluxe 2006. Installed it on my laptop, pulled down
the latest PPC version and install it to the WM5 device. Time to sync...
Connect the PDA to my laptop, watch Active Sync fire up and let the
synchronization start. Twenty minutes later we're still updating. 30
minutes. 90 minutes. Pretty sure this isn't right.

So I jump out here to this very newsgroup to discover that MS Money 2006
isn't going to sync with MS Money 2006 for the pocket pc on a WM5 device.
Huh? Well MS Money 2006 was released before WM5 came out. Alright, that
makes sense, database format is different or something. Its been 10 months
since WM5 came out so I'll just go find the update for Money on WM5 and life
will be good.

Problem. There is no update and there isn't going to be one. Money 2006
Deluxe only cost me $20 (which I attempted to get back btw,but bought it
retail and its open so my loss), but this just isn't right. Already knowing
the answer to my question, I thought I'd give tech support a call. Very nice
gentleman confirmed everything I already knew. WM5 device isn't going to
sync with the Microsoft Money application until the 2007 version is
released.... Almost. Money 2007 is in beta with a predetermined user base
(i.e. you can't opt in... even if you hold a Microsoft MSDN Universal
subscription such as I do). Even if you could, however, you STILL couldn't
sync with your WM5 device because according to the tech I spoke with, the WM5
pocket version won't be available until probably 3 or more months after Money
2007 reaches RTM status which in itself is probably another 3 or 4 months.

So... if you are content to wait for 6, 7, 8 months (lets round up to an
even year) to manage something as trivial as your finances on a WM5 device
that manages the rest of your life, then the MS Money Product team made the
right decision for you. I on the other hand can't wait that long.
Fortunately for me, Money's primary competitor (it's that other product that
starts with a "Q") has a WM5 product that syncs with their desktop version.
What were they thinking?

While I'm out $20 and wasn't able to get any satisfaction from the fine
folks at Microsoft, I'm only hoping that this post can help someone else from
foolishly spending their hard earned dollars on a product that won't work on
one of the millions of Microsoft WM5 devices being sold in the world today.
What were you guys thinking?
